هَوَى الْمُصْطَفَى الْمُخْتَارِ خَالَطَ مُضْمَرِي
وَكُلِّي وَجُزْئِي فَهْوَ سِرِّي وَمَظْهَرِي
Hawā l-muṣṭafā l-mukhtāri khālaṭa muḍmarī
Wa kullī wa juz’ī fahuwa sirrī wa maẓharī
The love of the Chosen, Elect One has mingled with my innermost secret, And with my whole and my parts; for he is my hidden reality and my manifest appearance.
إِذَا ضَاءَ ضَوْءُ الْبَدْرِ مِلْتُ لِذِكْرِهِ
وَأَذْكُرُهُ فِي كُلِّ مَرْأًى وَمَنْظَـــرِ
Idhā ḍā’a ḍaw’u l-badri miltu li-dhikrihī
Wa adhkuruhū fī kulli mar’an wa manẓarī
Whenever the light of the full moon shines, I incline toward his remembrance, And I mention him in every sight and every scene.
وَأَذْكُرُهُ عِنْدَ الْأَغَانِي وَإِذْ حَلاَ
مَذَاقٌ فَهُو عُمْرِي مَذَاقِي وَمُسْكِرِي
Wa adhkuruhū ‘inda l-aghānī wa idh ḥalā
Madhāqun fahuwa ‘umrī madhāqī wa muskirī
I remember him during songs, and whenever a taste becomes sweet; For he is my life, my very taste, and my spiritual intoxicant.
وَأَذْكُرُهُ عِنْدَ الْبَــــلاَ وَنَقِيضِـــــهِ
وَأَذْكُرُهُ فِي غَيْبَتِي مِثْلَ مَحْضَرِي
Wa adhkuruhū ‘inda l-balā wa naqīḍihī
Wa adhkuruhū fī ghaybatī mithla maḥḍarī
I remember him in times of affliction and its opposite, And I remember him in my absence just as I do in my presence.
وَأَذْكُرُهُ عِنْدَ الْحَبِيبِ وَلَمْ أَكُنْ
ِلِأَنْسَاهُ وَقْتَ الْأَجْنَبِيِّ الْمُكَـــدَّرِ
Wa adhkuruhū ‘inda l-ḥabībi wa lam akun
Li-ansāhu waqt al-ajnabiyyī l-mukaddarī
I remember him when with a beloved, and I was never one to forget him when in the company of a troubling stranger.
وَلَسْتُ أَرَى مُسْتَحْسَنًا غَيْرَ وَجْهِهِ
فَلَيْسَ جَمَالٌ غَيْرَ وَجْــــهِ الْمُدَثِّـــرِ
Wa lastu arā mustaḥsanān ghayra wajhihī
Fa laysa jamālun ghayra wajhi l-mudaththirī
I do not see anything beautiful except for his countenance, for there is no true beauty other than the face of the "Enwrapped One."
مُرَادِيَ كَوْنِي الْمُصْطَفَى عَيْنَ عَيْنِهِ
وَإِلاَّ فَمَوْتِى فِيهِ شَوْقًا لِعُنْصُــــرِي
Murādīya kawnī l-muṣṭafā ‘ayna ‘aynihī
Wa illā fa-mawtī fīhi shawqan li-‘unṣurī
My desire is to be the Prophet’s very essence, otherwise, let my death be in him, as a longing for my fundamental element.
وَلَوْلاَ الْتِّذَاذٌ فِي الْجِنَانِ بِنُورِهِ
لَمَا حَنَّ نَحْوَ الْخُلْدِ كُلُّ مُبَصَّــرِ
Wa lawlā l-tidhādun fī l-janāni bi-nūrihī
Lamā ḥanna naḥwa l-khuldi kullu mubaṣṣarī
Were it not for the delight found in the gardens through his light, no person of insight would ever yearn for eternal life.
وَلَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللّٰهِ كَانَ مُسَعِّرًا
لِبَرْهَامَ نَارًا خَالِدًا كُلَّ مَسْعَـرِ
Wa layta Rasūla llāhi kāna musarri‘an
Li-Barhāma nāran khālidān kulla mas‘arī
I wish the Messenger of Allah would kindle for Barham, a fire, to remain eternally in every flame of his love.
وَلَيْتِيَ كَالسِّبْطَيْنِ عِدْلَيْنِ فَوْقَهُ
وَلَيْتِيَ كَالصِّدِّيقِ لَيْتِي كَجَعْفَرِ
Wa laytīya ka-s-sibṭayni ‘idlayni fawqahū
Wa laytīya kaṣ-ṣiddīqi laytīya ka-Ja‘farī
I wish I were like the two grandsons (Hasan and Husayn), balanced upon his shoulders, or that I were like the Truthful One (Abu Bakr), or like Ja‘far.
وَلَيْتِي أَكُونُ الْيَوْمَ تُرْبَةَ نَعْلِهِ
وَلَيْتِي أَرَاكٌ لِلْأَمِينِ الْمُبَشِّـرِ
Wa laytīyā akūnu l-yawma turbata na‘lihī
Wa laytīya arākan li-l-amīni l-mubashshirī
I wish I were today the very dust of his sandal, or that I were a tooth-stick (Arak) for the Trustworthy Giver of Glad Tidings.
وَلَيْتِيَ يَوْمًا كُنْتُ شُرْبَةَ مَائِــهِ
وَحَامِلَ كَأْسٍ لِلْبَشِيرِ الْمُنَــوَّرِ
Wa laytīya yawman kuntu shurbata mā’ihī
Wa ḥāmila ka’sin li-l-bashīri l-munawwarī
I wish that one day I had been a draught of his water, or the cup-bearer for the radiant Bringer of Glad Tidings.
أُعَلِّلُ نَفْسِي بِالْوِصَــــالِ فَعَلَّـــهُ
يَجُودُ بِوَصْلٍ لِلرَّفِيقِ الْمُحَــــرَّرِ
U‘allilu nafsī bi-l-wiṣāli fa‘allahu
Yajūdu bi-waṣlin li-r-rafīqi l-muḥarrarī
I soothe my soul with the hope of union, for perhaps he will be generous with a connection for this liberated slave.
صَلاَةٌ عَلَى يَاسِينَ طَـــهَ مُحَمَّــــدٍ
مَعَ الْآلِ وَالْأَصْحَابِ غَيْرُ مُبَتَّــــرِ
Ṣalātun ‘alā Yāsīna Ṭāhā Muḥammadin
Ma‘a l-āli wa l-aṣḥābi ghayru mubattarī
Prayers be upon Yasin, Taha, Muhammad, along with the family and the companions, never to be severed.
