_Hawā l-muṣṭafā l-mukhtāri khālaṭa muḍmarī / Wa kullī wa juz’ī fahuwa sirrī wa maẓharī_

The love of the Chosen, Elect One has mingled with my innermost secret, And with my whole and my parts; for he is my hidden reality and my manifest appearance.

_Idhā ḍā’a ḍaw’u l-badri miltu li-dhikrihī / Wa adhkuruhū fī kulli mar’an wa manẓarī_

Whenever the light of the full moon shines, I incline toward his remembrance, And I mention him in every sight and every scene.

_Wa adhkuruhū ‘inda l-aghānī wa idh ḥalā / Madhāqun fahuwa ‘umrī madhāqī wa muskirī_

I remember him during songs, and whenever a taste becomes sweet; For he is my life, my very taste, and my spiritual intoxicant.

_Wa adhkuruhū ‘inda l-balā wa naqīḍihī / Wa adhkuruhū fī ghaybatī mithla maḥḍarī_

I remember him in times of affliction and its opposite, And I remember him in my absence just as I do in my presence.

_Wa adhkuruhū ‘inda l-ḥabībi wa lam akun / Li-ansāhu waqt al-ajnabiyyī l-mukaddarī_

I remember him when with a beloved, and I was never one to forget him when in the company of a troubling stranger.

_Wa lastu arā mustaḥsanān ghayra wajhihī / Fa laysa jamālun ghayra wajhi l-mudaththirī_

I do not see anything beautiful except for his countenance, for there is no true beauty other than the face of the "Enwrapped One."

_Murādīya kawnī l-muṣṭafā ‘ayna ‘aynihī / Wa illā fa-mawtī fīhi shawqan li-‘unṣurī_

My desire is to be the Prophet’s very essence, otherwise, let my death be in him, as a longing for my fundamental element.

_Wa lawlā l-tidhādun fī l-janāni bi-nūrihī / Lamā ḥanna naḥwa l-khuldi kullu mubaṣṣarī_

Were it not for the delight found in the gardens through his light, no person of insight would ever yearn for eternal life.

I wish the Messenger of Allah would kindle for Barham, a fire, to remain eternally in every flame of his love.

_Wa laytīya ka-s-sibṭayni ‘idlayni fawqahū / Wa laytīya kaṣ-ṣiddīqi laytīya ka-Ja‘farī_

I wish I were like the two grandsons (Hasan and Husayn), balanced upon his shoulders, or that I were like the Truthful One (Abu Bakr), or like Ja‘far.

_Wa laytīyā akūnu l-yawma turbata na‘lihī / Wa laytīya arākan li-l-amīni l-mubashshirī_

I wish I were today the very dust of his sandal, or that I were a tooth-stick (Arak) for the Trustworthy Giver of Glad Tidings.

_Wa laytīya yawman kuntu shurbata mā’ihī / Wa ḥāmila ka’sin li-l-bashīri l-munawwarī_

I wish that one day I had been a draught of his water, or the cup-bearer for the radiant Bringer of Glad Tidings.

I soothe my soul with the hope of union, for perhaps he will be generous with a connection for this liberated slave.

_Ṣalātun ‘alā Yāsīna Ṭāhā Muḥammadin / Ma‘a l-āli wa l-aṣḥābi ghayru mubattarī_

Prayers be upon Yasin, Taha, Muhammad, along with the family and the companions, never to be severed.
