صَحَوْتُ عَنِ الْغِيْدِ الْحِسَانِ وَلاَ أَصْحُو
عَنِ الْمُصْطَفَى الْمُخْتَارِ مَنْ نَحْوَهُ أَنْحُو
Ṣaḥawtu ‘an al-ghaydi al-ḥisāni wa lā aṣḥū
‘An al-Muṣṭafā al-mukhtāri man naḥwahu anḥū
I have sobered up from the distractions of fair maidens but I shall never sober up from the Chosen One toward whom I lean.
مَحَا عَنْ فُـؤَادِي كُلَّ غَيْرٍ وَإِنَّـــــــهُ
يُثَبِّتُ فِيهِ الْحَقَّ وَالْحَقُّ لاَ يَمْحُـــــــو
Maḥā ‘an fu’ādī kulla ghayrin wa inna-hu
Yuthabbitu fīhi al-ḥaqqa wa al-ḥaqqu lā yamḥū
He erased every "other" from my heart and indeed he establishes the Truth within it and the Truth is never erased.
فَإِنْ كَاثَرَ الْأَقْوَامُ أَكْثَرُهُـــــمْ بِـــهِ
فَبَيْعِي وَإِنْفَاقِي لَهُ الرَّأْسُ وَالرِّبْحُ
Fa-in kāthara al-aqwāmu aktharuhum bihi
Fa-bay‘ī wa infāqī lahu al-ra’su wa al-ribḥu
If the nations boast of their abundance then my selling and my spending for him are both the capital and the profit.
شِتَائِي وَصَيْفِي الدَّهْرَ ذِكْرُ مُحَمَّدٍ
فَيَنْجَحُ قَصْدِي نِعْمَ ذَلِكُمُ النَّجْـــحُ
Shitā’ī wa ṣayfī al-dahru dhikru Muḥammadin
Fa-yanjahu qaṣdī ni‘ma dhālikumu al-najḥu
My winter and my summer are forever the remembrance of Muhammad and thus my purpose succeeds—how excellent is that success.
حَبَانِي مُرَادِي فِيهِ نَهْجًا مُقَوَّمًــــــا
سَيَأْتِيهِ مِنِّي الْمَدْحُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ الْمَدْحُ
Ḥabānī murādī fīhi nahjan muqawwaman
Sayā’tīhi minnī al-madḥu min ba‘dihi al-madḥu
He granted me my desire through an upright path and so praise after praise shall reach him from me.
أُحَسِّنُ طِرْسِي بِالصِّفَـاتِ صِفَاتِـــهِ
وَلِي مِقْوَلٌ فِي الْمُصْطَفَى لَسِنٌ قُحُّ
Uḥassin ṭirsī bi-al-ṣifāti ṣifātihi
Wa lī miqwālun fī al-Muṣṭafā lasin quḥḥu
I beautify my parchment with his attributes and I possess a tongue that is eloquent and pure in praising the Chosen One.
وَمَا ذَا عَلَى بَرْهَامَ يُثْنِي عَلَيْكَ يَا
مُحَمَّدُ عَيْنَ الْمَدْحِ يَا مَنْ لَهُ الْفَتْحُ
Wa mā dhā ‘alā Barhāma yuthnī ‘alayka yā
Muḥammadu ‘ayna al-madḥi yā man lahu al-fatḥu
What is there to blame Barham for in praising you O Muhammad—the very essence of praise—O you who possess the Opening?
صَفَائِي وَأُنْسِي إِنْ خَلَوْتُ لِذِكْـرِهِ
وَمَنْ رَامَ تَأْنِيسَ الْمُحِبِّ لَهُ الْوَيْحُ
Ṣafā’ī wa unsī in khalawtu li-dhikrhi
Wa man rāma ta’nīsa al-muḥibbi lahu al-wayḥu
My purity and my intimacy are found when I am alone in his remembrance and woe to anyone who tries to distract the lover.
صَلاَةٌ وَتَسْلِيمٌ عَلَى خَيْــرِ هَاشِـــمٍ
وَآلٍ وَأَصْحَابٍ بِهَا يَجْتَلِي الرُّوحُ
Ṣalātun wa taslīmun ‘alā khayri Hāshim
Wa ālin wa aṣḥābin bihā yajtali al-rūḥu
Blessings and peace be upon the best of the Hashimites and the family and companions through which the soul finds clarity.
