Harful Qaafi ·
From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass
Qadi istāṣala al-maḥbūbu kullī wa jumlatī
Wa awṣalanī wal-ghayriyātu tawallatī
The Beloved has uprooted my entire being and my whole self, and he has brought me to union while all "otherness" has retreated.
Wa hā inna hādhā al-‘abdu ghaybu ilahinā
Wa qalbu al-warā wa al-dhātu fīhi tajallatī
Behold, this servant is the Unseen of our God and the heart of creation; within him, the Divine Essence has manifested.
Wa ṣallat ‘alayhi fahuwa baṭnun wa ẓāhirun
Fa-ẓāhiruhu ‘abdu wa lil-baṭni ṣallatī
The Essence blessed him, for he is both the inward and the outward; his outward is a servant, yet it was the inward that the Essence blessed.
Afāḍa lahu minhu ilayhi fahālanī
Muḥayyā rasūli Allāhi wa al-‘aynu kallatī
He poured forth unto him, from Him and to him; and I was awestruck by the countenance of the Messenger of Allah until my eyes grew weary.
Fataymanī shawqan wa ‘azza liqā’uhu
Idh al-‘īsu lā tujdi wa al-aqdāmu ḍallatī
He enslaved me with longing, yet meeting him is difficult, for the camels are of no use and the feet have lost their way.
Ahīmu bihi ṭawran alazzu bi-dhikrīhi
Fa-aslū wa ṭawran lam arum ghayra wuṣlatī
At times I wander aimlessly for him, delighting in his remembrance and finding solace, and at times I seek nothing but my union.
Wa ṭawran arā anna al-ḥayāta marīrah
Wa ṭawran arāhā bughyatī thumma wallatī
At times I see that life is bitter, and at times I see it as my ultimate desire, only for it to then turn away.
Wa tadhkāru aṭwārī bi-shawqi ḥabībinā
Tukillu qilāmī wa huwa ‘ayna maḍallatī
Recounting my changing states out of longing for our Beloved exhausts my pens, and it is the very essence of my bewilderment.
Ṣalātun ‘alā ‘ayna al-ghuyūbi wa ghaybihā
Wa ālin wa ṣaḥbin mā al-‘uyūnu iḍmaḥallatī
Prayers be upon the Essence of the Unseen Realities and their Hidden Core, and upon the family and companions as long as eyes remain.
