Harful Ghayni ·
From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass
Gharāmī wa shawqī li-l-Nabiyy yu-nashṭu
Qilāmī wa tajrī fi-l-madḥi wa tafruṭu
My passion and my longing for the Prophet energize my pens, causing them to race and overflow in praise.
Wa mādhā ‘alayya in junintu bi-ḥubbihi
Wa qad ṣāra min taḥtī walīdun wa ashmaṭu
What does it matter to me if I am called "mad" for his love, when both the young child and the gray-haired elder have come under my guidance?
Fa-laysa ‘alayya al-lawmu fi madḥi sayyidī
Fa-mā shi’tuhu madḥan fa-lam akū ufritu
There is no blame upon me for praising my Master, for no matter how much I praise, I could never be excessive.
Fa-baḥrun min al-asrār wa al-‘ilmi zākhirun
Jawāhiruhu tuzrī al-‘uqūda fa-tughbaṭu
He is a surging sea of secrets and knowledge whose jewels put all necklaces to shame, making them objects of envy.
Wa badrun min al-anwār wa al-hady ṭāli‘un
Wa akhjala shamsan fi al-ḍiyā’i fa-naghbaṭu
He is a full moon of lights and guidance rising, shaming the sun in its brightness, leaving us in admiration.
Wa Laithu al-waghā jammu al-nadā ṣārumu al-‘adā
Wa yaqsimu amwāl al-Ilāhi wa yuqsiṭu
He is the lion of war, the abundance of generosity, the sharp edge against enemies, who distributes God’s wealth with perfect justice.
Fa-huwa li-l-‘adā fi ṭayyiha kullu niqmah
Jalīlun jamīlun muṣliḥun wa huwa muḥbiṭu
For the enemies, he is a hidden torment within his folds; he is majestic, beautiful, a rectifier, yet one who brings down the proud.
Afāda jumū‘a al-bīḍ wa huwa abādahum
Wa arshada man qad kāna fi al-ghayyi yakhbiṭu
He benefited the masses of the white races even as he subdued their [tyranny], and he guided those who were stumbling blindly in error.
Wa lāna li-ahli al-dīni ‘annafa ghayrahum
Khabīrun baṣīrun wāhibun wa huwa muqsiṭu
He was gentle with the people of faith and firm with others; he is an expert, a seer, a giver, and a just arbiter.
Muḥammadun maḥw al-kufri maddu ḍiyā’ihi
Faqad jama‘a al-aḍdād ya‘lū wa yahbiṭu
Muhammad is the erasure of disbelief and the extension of light; he has gathered all opposites, ascending and descending.
‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi mā qāla mughramun
Gharāmī wa shawqī li-l-Nabiyy yu-nashṭu
Upon him be the prayer of Allah as long as an infatuated lover says: My passion and my longing for the Prophet energize my pens.
