Harful Daal · حرف الدال

بَرَى الْقَلْبَ حُبُّ الْـهَاشِمِيِّ مُحَمَّدِ
تَخَوَّفَ نَوْمِي بِالْغَرَامِ الْمُسَهِّــــدِ

Barā al-qalba ḥubbu al-Hāshimiyyi Muḥammadi
Takhawwafa nawmī bi-al-gharāmi al-musahhidi

Love for the Hashimite Muhammad has consumed my heart, and sleepless longing has frightened away my slumber.

رَسُولٌ مِنَ الْكَنْزِ الْقَدِيمِ مَنَالُهُ
تَحَيَّرَ فِيهِ خَاطِرُ الْمُتَــــــرَدِّدِ

Rasūlun mina al-kanzi al-qadīmi manāluhu
Taḥayyara fīhi khāṭiru al-mutaraddidi

He is a Messenger whose source is the Ancient Treasure, leaving the hesitant mind in utter bewilderment.

عُبُودَتُهُ مَقْرُونَةٌ بِسِيَـــــــــادَةٍ
بَشِيرٌ نَذِيرٌ قَاصِدٌ خَيْرُ مَقْصَدِ

‘Ubūdatuhu maqrūnatun bi-siyādatin
Bashīrun nadhīrun qāṣidun khayru maqṣadi

His servitude is inextricably linked to mastery; a bringer of glad tidings and warnings, seeking the best of goals.

مَذَلَّتُهُ الْعِزُّ الْقَدِيمُ جَلاَلُـــــــهُ
جَمَالٌ فَيَبْدُو بِالْجَمَالِ الْمُجَــدَّدِ

Madhallatuhu al-‘izzu al-qadīmu jalāluhu
Jamālun fa-yabdū bi-al-jamāli al-mujaddadi

His humility is the primordial glory, and his majesty is a beauty that appears in ever-renewed forms.

فَقِيرٌ غَنِيٌّ حَامِدٌ وَمُحَمَّـــــــدٌ
جَوَادٌ كَرِيمٌ مَدْحُهُ خَيْرُ مُنْشَـدِ

Faqīrun ghaniyyun ḥāmidun wa-muḥammadun
Jawādun karīmun madḥuhu khayru munshadi

Poor yet rich, praising yet praised, generous and noble; his eulogy is the finest of all songs.

وَلَيْسَ يُرَى مَنْ ضَامَهُ الدَّهْرُ ضَارِعًا
مَدَى الدَّهْرِ إِلاَّ نَالَهُ خَيْــــــرُ مُنْجِـــــدِ

Wa-laysa yurā man ḍāmahu ad-dahru ḍāri‘an
Madā ad-dahri illā nālahu khayru munjidi

One oppressed by time is never seen pleading without receiving help from the best of helpers.

وَهَذَا خَدِيمٌ قَـــــدْ أَتَى مُتَكَفِّفًـــــا
فَمُدَّ لَهُ كَفَّيْكَ يَا خَيْــــرَ صِنْـــدِدِ

Wa-hadhā khadīmun qad atā mutakaffifan
Fa-mudda lahu kaffayka yā khayra ṣindidi

Here is a servant who has come with open palms, so stretch out your hands to him, O best of leaders.

وَكُنْ حِصْنَهُ عَمَّا يَخَافُ وَكُنْ لَهُ
فَهَلْ وَزَرٌ يُلْفَى كَأَحْمَـــــدَ سَيِّـــدِي

Wa-kun ḥiṣnahu ‘ammā yakhāfu wa-kun lahu
Fa-hal wazarun yulfā ka-Aḥmada sayyidī

Be his fortress against all he fears and be there for him, for is there any refuge to be found like my master Ahmad?

عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةُ رَبِّــهِ حَـــــــقَّ قَــــدْرِهِ
مَعَ الْآلِ وَالْأَصْحَابِ بَلْ كُلِّ أَحْمَدِ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu rabbihi ḥaqqa qadrihi
Ma‘a al-āli wa-al-aṣḥābi bal kulli aḥmadi

Upon him be the prayers of his Lord as is his true due, along with his folk, companions, and every follower of Ahmad.

قَضَى لِيَ قَاضِي الْحُبِّ وَهْوَ مُـبَرِّزٌ
بِـأَنِّـي الْمُجَلِّي فِـــي مَحَبَّةِ أَحْمَـــدِ

Qaḍā liya qāḍī al-ḥubbi wa-huwa mubarrizun
Bi-annī al-mujallī fī maḥabbati Aḥmadi

The Judge of Love, who is pre-eminent, has decreed that I am the frontrunner in the love of Ahmad.

لِذَالِكَ أَقْضِي فِي الْوُجُودِ بِأَسْرِهِ
قَضَاءَ ذَوِي الْأَمْلاَكِ غَيْرَ مُفَنَّـدِ

Li-dhālika aqḍī fī al-wujūdi bi-asrihi
Qaḍā’a dhawī al-amlāki ghayra mufannadi

Therefore, I command authority over all existence, a decree like that of kings, which cannot be refuted.

فَلَلْتُ شَبَاتَ الْمُعْتَدِينَ وَطَالَمَا
أُحَدِّدُ أَذْهَانًا لِإِدْرَاكِ مَقْصَــدِي

Falaltu shabāta al-mu‘tadīna wa-ṭālamā
Uḥaddidu adhhānan li-idrāki maqṣadī

I have blunted the blades of the transgressors, and for so long I have sharpened minds to perceive my purpose.

وَفَرَّقْتُ جَمْعًا لِلْأَبَاطِلِ جَامِعًا
لِأَشْتَاتِ أَشْوَاقٍ بِقَلْبٍ مُعَبَّـــــدِ

Wa-farraqtu jam‘an lil-abāṭīli jāmi‘an
Li-ashtāti ashwāqin bi-qalbin mu‘abbadi

I have dispersed the gatherings of falsehood while gathering scattered longings within a heart devoted to worship.

بِحُبِّ رَسُولِ اللّٰهِ طَــــهَ مُحَمَّدٍ
حَبِيبِ إِلَهِ الْعَالَمِينَ الْمُمَجَّــــدِ

Bi-ḥubbi rasūli Allāhi Ṭāhā Muḥammadin
Ḥabībi ilāhi al-‘ālamīna al-mumajjadi

Through the love of the Messenger of Allah, Taha Muhammad, the beloved of the Glorified God of the worlds.

حَبِيبٌ خَلِيلٌ تَـــمَّ مَعْنًــى وَصُـــورَةً
وَوَصْفًا وَذَاتًا خَيْرُ مَأْوًى وَمَرْصَدِ

Ḥabībun khalīlun tamma ma‘nan wa-ṣūratan
Wa-waṣfan wa-dhātan khayru ma’wan wa-marṣadi

A beloved and intimate friend, perfect in meaning, form, attribute, and essence—the best refuge and lookout.

تَكَامَلَ فِيهِ الْحُسْنُ غَيْبًا وَمَشْهَـدًا
فَلَيْسَ كَطَهَ الْمُصْطَفَى عِنْدَ مَشْهَدِي

Takāmala fīhi al-ḥusnu ghayban wa-mashhadan
Fa-laysa ka-Ṭāhā al-muṣṭafā inda mashhadī

Beauty reached perfection in him, both in the unseen and the seen; there is no vision for me but the Chosen Taha.

وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ رَبُّنَــــــا بِكَلاَمِـــــهِ
فَأَعْيَا بَلِيـــغٌ دُونَـــــهُ يَدَ مُسْنَــــدِ

Wa-athnā ‘alayhi rabbunā bi-kalāmihi
Fa-a‘yā balīghun dūnahu yada musnadi

Our Lord praised him in His own Speech, exhausting the eloquent who fail to reach the reach of his support.

وَيَكْفِيهِ مَدْحًا ذَاتُهُ وَصِفَاتُــــــهُ
مُحَمَّدُ فِعْلُ الْحَمْدِ مِنْ حَمْدِ أَحْمَدِ

Wa-yakfīhi madḥan dhātuhu wa-ṣifātuhu
Muḥammadu fi‘lu al-ḥamdi min ḥamdi Aḥmadi

His very essence and attributes suffice as praise; Muhammad is the act of praising originating from Ahmad’s praise.

عَلَيْهِ وَآلِ الصِّدْقِ أَعْلَى صَلاَتِهِ
كَذَا مَنْ بَرَاهُ الشَّوْقُ نَحْوَ مُحَمَّدِ

‘Alayhi wa-āli aṣ-ṣidqi a‘lā ṣalātihi
Kadha man barāhu ash-shawqu naḥwa Muḥammadi

Upon him and the family of truth be the loftiest prayers, and likewise upon everyone whom longing for Muhammad has consumed.
