كَفَانِي شُرُورَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ مَـنْ نَفَــى
دُجَى الْبَغْيِ وَالْأَسْوَاءِ بِالنُّورِ مُصْطَفَى
Kafānī shurūra al-jinni wa-l-insi man nafā
dujā al-baghyi wa-l-aswā’i bi-l-nūri Muṣṭafā
The one who banished the darkness of transgression and evil with light, the Chosen One, has sufficed me against the evils of jinn and men.
كَفَانِيَ مَكْرَ الْمَاكِرِيـــنَ وَكَيْدَهُـــــمْ
كَفَى الضُّرَّ وَالْبَأْسَاءَ عَنِّيَ وَالْجَفَا
Kafāniya makra al-mākirīna wa-kaydahum
kafā al-ḍurra wa-l-ba’sā’a ʿannī wa-l-jafā
He has sufficed me against the plots and deceptions of the schemers, and has warded off harm, misfortune, and abandonment from me.
وَأَلْزَمَنِي ذِكْرَ الْحَبِيبِ وَمَدْحَهُ
عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةُ اللّٰهِ مَا شَارِقٌ خَفَــا
Wa-alzamanī dhikra al-ḥabībi wa-madḥahu
ʿalayhi ṣalātu Allāhi mā shāriqun khafā
He has made it binding upon me to remember the Beloved and praise him; may the blessings of Allah be upon him as long as a rising star is seen.
عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةُ اللّٰهِ كَالْقَطْرِ وَالْحَصَى
وَكَالرَّمْلِ وَالْأَوْرَاقِ مَا دَامَ مُقْتَفَى
ʿAlayhi ṣalātu Allāhi ka-l-qaṭri wa-l-ḥaṣā
wa-ka-l-ramli wa-l-awrāqi mā dāma muqtafā
May the blessings of Allah be upon him as numerous as raindrops, pebbles, sand, and leaves, for as long as he is followed.
وَكَالْقَدْرِ وَالْمِقْـــــدَارِ بَطْنًـــا وَظَاهِـــرًا
مَدَى الدَّهْرِ يَا مَنْ قَادَ لِي كُلَّ مَا اصْطَفَى
Wa-ka-l-qadri wa-l-miqdāri baṭnan wa-ẓāhiran
madā al-dahri yā man qāda lī kulla mā ṣṭafā
Blessings as vast as his status and measure, inwardly and outwardly, for all time—O You who have guided to me all that You have chosen.
مُحَمَّـــدُ عَبْــــــدُ اللّٰهِ سَيِّـــــدُ خَلْقِــــــهِ
وَسَلِّـــمْ عَلَيْــهِ وَارْحَمَـــنَّ وَشَرِّفَــــا
Muḥammadu ʿabdu Allāhi sayyidu khalqihi
wa-sallim ʿalayhi wa-rḥamanna wa-sharrifā
Muhammad, the servant of Allah and the master of His creation; grant him peace, mercy, and honor.
تَجَلَّــتْ لَــــهُ الــذَّاتُ الْعَلِيَّــــةُ سَاذِجـــاً
وَعَيْنُ الْعَمَى وَالطَّمْسِ مُعْطًى وَمُتْحَفَا
Tajallat lahu al-dhātu al-ʿaliyyatu sādijan
wa-ʿaynu al-ʿamā wa-l-ṭamsi muʿṭan wa-mutḥafā
The Divine Essence manifested to him in its purity, giving and gifting him while the eyes of others were veiled and blinded.
فَتَمَّمَـــــــهُ رَبٌّ كَرِيــــــــــمٌ أَحَبَّــــهُ
وَأَكْمَلَـهُ حِسًّــا وَمَعْنًــى وَضَعَّـــفَا
Fa-tammamahu Rabbun Karīmun aḥabbahu
wa-akmalahu ḥissan wa-maʿnan wa-ḍaʿʿafā
A Generous Lord who loved him perfected him, completing him in both physical form and spiritual meaning, and increasing his stature.
حَبَاهُ وَأَجْـــــــدَاهُ وَقَــــرَّبَ ذَاتَـــهُ
لِحَضْرَتِهِ الْعَلْيَا وَأَعْطَــى وَنَيَّفَـــا
Ḥabāhu wa-ajdāhu wa-qarraba dhātahu
li-ḥaḍratihi al-ʿulyā wa-aʿṭā wa-nayyafā
He bestowed upon him, enriched him, and drew his essence close to His High Presence, giving him more than can be counted.
فَهُــو أَوَّلُ التَّوْحِيــــدِ أَوَّلُ قَابِـــــلٍ
تَجَلِّيَ ذَاتِ الْحَقِّ زَحْـــزَحَ رَفْرَفَـــا
Fahuwa awwalu al-tawḥīdi awwalu qābilin
tajalliya dhāti al-ḥaqqi zaḥzaḥa rafrafā
For he is the first of Monotheism, the first to receive the manifestation of the Divine Truth when the veils were drawn back.
وَأَوَّلُ مَوْجُــــــــودٍ وَأَوَّلُ خَــــادِمٍ
وَأَوَّلُ مَخْــــدُومٍ أُطِيـــعَ وَأُتْحِفَـــا
Wa-awwalu mawjūdin wa-awwalu khādimin
wa-awwalu makhdūmin uṭīʿa wa-utḥafā
He is the first existence, the first servant, and the first to be served, obeyed, and honored with gifts.
وَأَوَّلُ مَذْكُــــــــورٍ وَأَوَّلُ ذَاكِــــرٍ
وَأَوْفَى لَنَا خِرْقًا سَرِيًّـــا مُشَرَّفَـــا
Wa-awwalu madhkūrin wa-awwalu dhākirin
wa-awfā lanā khirqan sariyyan musharrafā
He is the first to be mentioned and the first to mention God, providing for us a noble and honorable spiritual path.
فَأَعْطَى لِكُلِّ الْخَلْقِ كُــــلَّ فَوَاضِــلٍ
وَأَعْطَى لِأَهْلِ الْفَضْلِ فَضْلاً وَنَفْنَفَا
Fa-aʿṭā li-kulli al-khalqi kulla fawāḍilin
wa-aʿṭā li-ahli al-faḍli faḍlan wa-nafnafā
He granted all virtues to all of creation, and gave the people of excellence even greater favor and height.
بِهِ بَانَ سِــــــــرُّ الْكَائِنَــــاتِ فَـــآدَمٌ
فَنُوحٌ فَإِبْرَاهِيـــــمُ فَالْكُــــلَّ أَتْحَفَــــا
Bihi bāna sirru al-kā’ināti fa-Ādamu
fa-Nūḥun fa-Ibrāhīmu fa-l-kulla atḥafā
Through him, the secret of all beings became clear; thus Adam, Noah, and Abraham were all honored through him.
فَمُوسَى فَعِيسَى ثُمَّ حِبِّـــــي مُحَمَّـــدٌ
بِهِ أُتْحِفُوا حَمْلَ الْأَمَانَـــــةِ وَالْوَفَـــا
Fa-Mūsā fa-ʿĪsā thumma ḥibbī Muḥammadun
bihi utḥifū ḥamla al-amānati wa-l-wafā
Then Moses, Jesus, and then my beloved Muhammad; through him, they were graced to carry the Trust and fulfill the covenant.
وَمَارِيئَ مِنْ خَيْــــرِ الْأَنَامِ مُحَمَّــدٍ
سِوَى ظِلِّهِ مَاحِي الظِّــــلاَلِ مُثَقِّفَــا
Wa-mā ru’iya min khayri al-anāmi Muḥammadin
siwā ẓillihi māḥī al-ẓilāli muthaqqafā
Nothing of the best of mankind, Muhammad, was seen except his shadow—the one who erases shadows and refines the soul.
بِغَارِ حِرَاءٍ قَــــــدْ أَتَتْــهُ رِسَالَــــةٌ
مِنَ اللّٰهِ مَهْمَـــــا جَــــاءَهُ مُتَعَكِّفَـــا
Bi-ghāri Ḥirā’in qad atat-hu risālatun
min Allāhi mahmā jā’ahu mutaʿakkifā
In the Cave of Hira, the message came to him from Allah while he was devoted in seclusion.
فَجَاءَ نَذِيرًا دَاعِيًـــــــا وَمُبَشِّـــرًا
وَأَرْشَدَ مَنْ قَدْ كَانَ قَبْلُ تَعَسَّفَــــا
Fa-jā’a nadhīran dāʿiyan wa-mubashshiran
wa-arshada man qad kāna qablu taʿassafā
So he came as a warner, a caller, and a bearer of glad tidings, guiding those who had previously wandered in error.
وَصَلَّى وَصَامَ الصَّيْفَ حَجَّ مُجَاهِدًا
وَزَكَّى وَشَادَ الدِّينَ وَالْكَـــوْنَ ثَقَّفَــا
Wa-ṣallā wa-ṣāma al-ṣayfa ḥajja mujāhidan
wa-zakkā wa-shāda al-dīna wa-l-kawna thaqqafā
He prayed, fasted in the summer heat, performed the pilgrimage as a striver, gave zakat, built the religion, and enlightened the universe.
وَجَاهَدَ فِهْرًا عِنْدَ بَدْرٍ مُحَمَّــــــدٌ
وَجِبْرِيلُ أَوْ مِيكَالُ فِيــهِ تَكَشَّفَـــا
Wa-jāhada Fihran ʿinda Badrin Muḥammadun
wa-Jibrīlu aw Mīkālu fīhi takashshafā
Muhammad struggled against the clan of Fihr at Badr, where Gabriel and Michael revealed themselves to assist.
كَذَالِكَ إِسْرَافِيلُ جَـــاءَ مُبَــــارِزًا
كَذَلِكَ عَزْرَائِيلُ لِلْحَـــــرْبِ لَفَّفَـــا
Kadhalika Isrāfīlu jā’a mubārizan
kadhalika ʿAzrā’īlu lil-ḥarbi laffafā
Likewise, Seraphiel came to join the fray, and Azrael gathered for the battle.
بِخَمْسَـــــةِ آلاَفٍ أَتَـــوْهُ بِشَــــــارَةً
وَنَاصِرُهُ مَوْلَى الْبَرَايَا وَقَدْ كَفَى
Bi-khamsati ālāfin ataw-hu bishāratan
wa-nāṣiruhu mawlā al-barāyā wa-qad kafā
They came to him with five thousand angels as a glad tiding, and his Supporter—the Lord of all beings—was sufficient.
أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْعَالِي الْإِمَــــامُ وَسَيِّـــدِي
أَبُو حَفْصٍ الْفَارُوقُ حِبِّيَ مَنْ صَفَـا
Abū Bakrin al-ʿālī al-imāmu wa-sayyidī
Abū Ḥafṣin al-Fārūqu ḥibbī man ṣafā
Abu Bakr the exalted, the Imam and my master; and Abu Hafs al-Faruq, my beloved who is pure of heart.
وَعُثْمَانُ ذُو النُّورَينِ وَالصِّنْوُ قَدْ أَتَى
عَلِـيٌّ أَبُو السِّبْطَيْنِ كَاللَّيْــــثِ مُشْرِفَــا
Wa-ʿUthmānu dhū al-nūrayni wa-l-ṣinwu qad atā
ʿAliyyun abū al-sibṭayni ka-l-laythi mushrifā
And Uthman, the Possessor of Two Lights; and the brother-in-law Ali, the father of the two grandsons, appearing like a majestic lion.
وَطَلْحَةُ سَعْدٌ وَالزُّبَيْـــــرُ سَعِيدُهُــــمْ
وَنَجْلٌ لِعَوْفٍ ثُمَّ عَامِرُ مَـــنْ وَفَـــى
Wa-Ṭalḥatu Saʿdun wa-l-Zubayru Saʿīduhum
wa-najlun li-ʿAwfin thumma ʿĀmiru man wafā
And Talhah, Sa'd, al-Zubayr, and Sa'id; and the son of Awf, then Amir—those who were faithful to the promise.
فَيَا قَبْرَ جَمْــعِ الْكَافِـرِيــنَ جَمِيعِهِــمْ
قَدْ أَرْضَيْتُمُ الْمَولَى بِنُصْرَةِ مُصْطَفَى
Fa-yā qabra jamʿi al-kāfirīna jamīʿahim
qad arḍaytumu al-Mawlā bi-nuṣrati Muṣṭafā
O grave that gathered all the disbelievers together, you (the companions) have pleased the Lord by supporting the Chosen One.
بِكَسْرِكُمُ الْأَصْنَـــامَ جَبْــــرُ قُلُوبِنَـــا
وَشِدْتُمْ مَنَارَ الْحَقِّ أَعْلَى وَأَشْرَفَــا
Bi-kasrikumu al-aṣnāma jabru qulūbinā
wa-shidtumu manāra al-ḥaqqi aʿlā wa-ashrafā
By your breaking of the idols, our hearts were mended, and you built the lighthouse of Truth at its highest and most noble point.
أَيَا اللّٰهُ يَا رَحْمَـانُ يَا حَــيُّ وَاهِبِــي
أَقِمْ بِيَ أَرْكَانًــــا لِدِينِــــكَ ذَا اقْتِفَـــا
Ayā Allāhu yā Raḥmānu yā ḥayyu wāhibī
aqim bī arkānan li-dīnika dhā qtifā
O Allah, O Most Merciful, O Ever-Living Giver, establish through me the pillars of Your religion through following his path.
أُرَجِّي بِرَبِّ الْبَيْتِ مِنْكَ تَدَارُكًــــا
لِقَرْنِي وَأَرْجُو الدَّهْرَ مِنْكَ تَعَطُّفَــا
Urajjī bi-Rabbi al-bayti minka tadārukan
li-qarnī wa-arjū al-dahra minka taʿaṭṭufā
By the Lord of the House, I hope for Your intervention in my time, and I seek Your kindness throughout the ages.
رَجَائِي كَبِيرٌ وَاسِـــعٌ دُونَ فَضْلِــهِ
أَيَا رَبِّ فَضْلاً مِنْكَ لُطْفًـــا تَلَطُّفَــا
Rajā’ī kabīrun wāsiʿun dūna faḍlihi
ayā Rabbi faḍlan minka luṭfan talaṭṭufā
My hope is great and vast before His grace; O Lord, grant me favor and gentle kindness.
فَلاَ رَاحَةٌ لِلْعَبْدِ فِــي غَيْــرِ نَيْلِـــهِ
مَطَالِبَ وَافَتْ بَحْرَ جُــودٍ مُنَيِّفَـــا
Falā rāḥatun lil-ʿabdi fī ghayri naylihi
maṭāliba wāfat baḥra jūdin munayyafā
There is no rest for the servant except in attaining his goals which have reached the sea of Your supreme generosity.
بِجَاهِ رَسُولِ اللّٰهِ حَقِّـــقْ رَجَاءَنَــا
فَنَقْفُو لَهُـمْ آثَارَ صِـــدْقٍ وَنُقْتَفَــى
Bi-jāhi Rasūli Allāhi ḥaqqiq rajā’anā
fa-naqfū lahum āthāra ṣidqin wa-nuqtafā
By the rank of the Messenger of Allah, fulfill our hopes, so that we may follow their path of truth and be followed ourselves.
وَجَاهِهِمُ عِنْدَ الْإِلَــهِ وَجَاهِ مَـنْ
أَتَى بَعْدَهُمْ فِي قَفْوِ آثَارِ مُقْتَفَــى
Wa-jāhihim ʿinda al-ilāhi wa-jāhi man
atā baʿdahum fī qafwi āthāri muqtafā
By their rank with God, and the rank of those who came after them, following in the footsteps of those who preceded.
عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةُ رَبِّـــهِ حَــقَّ قَــدْرِهِ
وَآلٍ وَأَصْحَابٍ وَمَنْ قَدْ تَحَنَّفَا
ʿAlayhi ṣalātu Rabbihi ḥaqqa qadrihi
wa-ālin wa-aṣḥābin wa-man qad taḥannafā
Upon him be the blessings of his Lord as is his true due, and upon his Family, his Companions, and whoever turns toward the true faith.
