Harful Baa · حَرْفُ الْبَاءِ

طَحَا بِيَ شَوْقِي لِلْأَمِيــنِ وَأَطْــرَبُ
وَمَا شَاقَنِي غِيدٌ بِذِي الشَّيْبِ تَلْعَبُ

Ṭaḥā biya shawqī lil-Amīni wa-aṭrabu
Wa-mā shāqanī ghīdun bi-dhī al-shaybi tal‘abu

My longing for the Trustworthy one has carried me away and I am filled with joy, for fair maidens who play with the gray-haired no longer move me.

تَيَقَّنْــتُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ كَـــــانَ وَلَمْ يَـــزَلْ
وَأَنَّـــكَ مَحْبُــــوبٌ لَدَيْـــهِ مُقَــرَّبُ

Tayaqqantu anna Allāha kāna wa-lam yazal
Wa-annaka maḥbūbun ladayhi muqarrabu

I have become certain that Allah was and ever shall be, and that you are a beloved one, brought near into His presence.

وَأَنَّـــكَ هَــــادٍ لِلْخَلاَئِـــقِ مُرْشِــدٌ
وَأَنَّـــكَ هَــــادٍ لِلْإِلَــهِ ، مُحَبَّــــبُ

Wa-annaka hādin lil-khalā’iqi murshidun
Wa-annaka hādin lil-ilāhi muḥabbabu

And that you are a guide for all creatures, a spiritual counselor, and that you are a guide toward God, most beloved.

وَأَنَّــكَ لِلْأَكْـــوَانِ نُورٌ وَرَحْمَــةٌ
وَإِنِّي مَـــلاَذِي وَالْمُهَيْمِــنِ مُذْنِـبُ

Wa-annaka lil-akwāni nūrun wa-raḥmatun
Wa-innī malādhī wal-muhaymini mudhnibu

And that you are a light and a mercy for the universes, while I—by the Protector—am a sinner seeking refuge.

عَلَيْهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللَّهِ ثُـــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
سَلاَمٌ لَدَى خَيْرِ الْخَلاَئِـــقِ مُطْرِبُ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Salāmun lada khayri al-khalā’iqi muṭribu

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, a peace in the presence of the best of creatures that stirs the soul.

عَلَيْهِ مَعَ الْآلِ الْكِــرَامِ وَصَحْبِـــهِ
صَلاَةٌ وَتَسْلِيمٌ مِنَ الْمِسْكِ أَطْيَـــبُ

‘Alayhi ma‘a al-āli al-kirāmi wa-ṣaḥbihi
Ṣalātun wa-taslīmun mina al-miski aṭyabu

Upon him, along with the noble family and his companions, be a prayer and salutation more fragrant than musk.
