Harful Daal ·

From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass

Dawā’iya dā’ī wa-huwa ḥubbī Muḥammadā
Abā al-Qāsimi al-hādī li-man qad tawaḥḥadā

My medicine is my ailment, and that is my love for Muhammad, the father of Qasim, the guide for those who declare the Oneness of God.

Ḥabāka ilāhun wāsi‘u al-faḍli wal-‘aṭā
Wasīlatahu al-‘uẓmā wa-dumta muḥammadā

A God of vast grace and giving has granted you the Greatest Means, and you remain forever the Praiseworthy one.

La-khayra rasūlin ji’ta anṣaḥa mundhirin
Wa-khayra shafī‘in khayra man ajzala al-nadā

What an excellent Messenger you are—the most sincere warner—and the best intercessor, the best of those who gave generously.

Wa-innī Rasūla Allāhi fīka mutayyamun
Fa-lam attakhidh khillan siwāka wa-sayyidā

Indeed, O Messenger of Allah, I am enslaved by love for you; I have taken no intimate friend nor master besides you.

Fa-sus liya dahrī yā amīnu fa-lā urā
Uqāsī ‘anā’an min ‘arībin tamarradā

So govern my time for me, O Trustworthy one, so that I may not be seen suffering distress from any rebellious person.

Wa-zid liya ḥubbī fī al-ḥabībi fa-innanī
Ra’aytu quṣūrī ‘an ḥuqūqin wa-‘an hudā

And increase my love for the Beloved within me, for I have seen my own shortcomings in fulfilling rights and following guidance.

Wa-taḥlū ḥayātī thumma mawtī fa-innanī
Ḍa‘īfun dhalīlun qad fazi‘tu li-Aḥmadā

May my life and then my death become sweet, for I am weak and lowly, and I have fled for refuge to Ahmad.

Ḥalāwatu mawtī wat-tisā‘un li-maḍja‘ī
Wa-luqyā ḥabībi Allāhi afḍali man hadā

The sweetness of my death, the expansion of my resting place, and the meeting with the Beloved of Allah—the best of all who guided.

Muqāsātu amrāḍin wa-naz‘in wa-sakratin
Tu‘awwiḍunī ‘anhā ḥuḍūran wa-mashhadā

May your presence and your witnessing compensate me for the suffering of illness, the throes of death, and its intoxication.

Bi-jāhi Rasūli Allāhi kahfī wa-masnadī
Fa-lam yalqa Ibrāhīmu mā lam yu‘awwadā

By the rank of the Messenger of Allah, my cave and my support, may Ibrahim never encounter what he is not accustomed to.

‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Ṣalātan turī ‘ahdī ladayka mu’akkadā

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, a prayer that shows my covenant with you to be firmly ratified.

‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Wa-ālin wa-ṣaḥbin qad qafawka ‘ala al-hudā

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, and upon the family and companions who followed you upon the guidance.
