Harful Waw ·

From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass

Wa-innī unassa al-dahra Su‘dā kadhā Arwā
Li-ḥubbi ḥabībin mā tadhakkartuhu arwā

I have been made to forget Su'da and Arwa forever, for the love of a Beloved whom I never remember but that I am quenched (Arwa).

Fa-in tas’alū ‘an madhhabī wa-mutayyamī
Fa-ḥubbu al-nabiyyi al-Hāshimiyyi wa-huwa man ahwā

If you ask about my creed and the object of my devotion, it is the love of the Hashemite Prophet; he is the one I love.

Ilayhi masīrī wa-huwa qaṣdī wa-maṭlabī
Sabīlī iqtifā mā ‘an jalālatihi yurwā

To him is my journey, he is my aim and my requirement; my path is to follow what is narrated regarding his majesty.

Fa-in manna lī bil-waṣli yawman Muḥammadun
Shafaytu ghalīlan idh masāfatuhu tuṭwā

If Muhammad ever favors me with union one day, I shall heal my intense thirst as the distance is folded.

Wa-man ṣadda ‘annī wal-Amīnu muwāṣilī
Wa-man manna lī bil-waṣli siy-yāni fī al-jadwā

Whoever turns away from me—while the Trustworthy one remains connected to me—and whoever grants me union are both equal in benefit.

Huwa al-yumnu wal-taysīru wal-sa‘du wal-munā
Lahu al-‘urwatu al-wuthqā wa-huwa al-masnadu al-aqwā

He is the blessing, the ease, the happiness, and the desire; to him belongs the Firmest Handle and he is the strongest support.

Atā wa-abāna al-rushda lil-khalqi wal-hudā
Wa-mahhada lil-islāmi fānzāḥati al-aswā

He came and made clear right-guidance and the path for creation; he paved the way for Islam, and so the evils were removed.

Wa-ballaghanā mā anzala Allāhu kāshifan
Bi-nūrin dujā al-ishrāki wal-shakki wal-ighwā

He conveyed to us what Allah revealed, uncovering with light the darkness of polytheism, doubt, and seduction.

Falā al-dahra tulfī fī al-barāyā mushākilan
Li-Aḥmada khayri al-mursalīna wa-lā sharwā

Never throughout time will you find among beings anyone resembling Ahmad, the best of Messengers, not even in the slightest.

Fa-min āyihi āyātuhum wa-kitābuhu
Jadīdun ‘alā ṭūli al-zamāni wa-lā gharwā

The miracles of other prophets are but a part of his miracles; and his Book remains new despite the passage of time—no wonder!

Wa-qad waṭi’a al-‘arsha al-majīda taqah-qarat
Bu‘ayda ghurūbin shamshuhu wa-badat ṣaḥwā

He trod upon the Glorious Throne; and the sun retreated for him after its setting, appearing clear again.

A-a‘jabu hādhā am ‘uyūnun tafaj-jarat
Mina al-kaffi kaffi al-Hāshimiyyi wa-suqū ṣafwā

Do I marvel at this, or at the springs that gushed forth from the palm—the palm of the Hashemite—and they were given pure water to drink?

Ami al-badru mashqūqan ami al-jidh‘u ṣārikhan
Ḥanīnan lahu am sarḥatun qad atat ḥabwā

Or at the moon being split? Or the tree-trunk crying out in longing for him? Or the tree that came walking to him?

Ami al-kaffu min turbin tubīdu ‘aram-raman
Ami al-sunnatu al-gharrā’u tasta’ṣilu al-ahwā

Or the handful of dust that destroyed a massive army? Or the radiant Sunnah that uproots the whims of the soul?

A-tilka ami al-tashfī‘u yawma taqaṭ-ṭa‘at
Wasā’ilu kulli al-nāsi wal-Muṣṭafā al-ma’wā

Are those the greatest, or is it his intercession on the Day when all people's means are cut off, and the Chosen One is the only refuge?

Falā ḥaṣra lil-āyāti siy-yāni Bāqilun
Wa-Qissun li-natruk baḥra amdāḥihi rahwā

There is no end to his miracles; whether one is as mute as Baqil or as eloquent as Qiss, let us leave the sea of his praises calm and vast.

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Asīru ila al-mawlā wa-lī al-bu‘du qad yuṭwā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; I travel toward the Master, and for me, the distance may be folded.

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Ṣalātan turaqqīnā ila ḥaḍrati al-aḍwā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer that elevates us to the Presence of Lights.

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Alūdhu bi-khayri al-khalqi fī al-jahri wal-najwā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; I take refuge in the best of creation in public and in secret.

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Fa-yanqādu lī al-ma’mūlu wal-yukshafi al-balwā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; so that my hopes may be attained and my afflictions removed.

‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Aqūdu li-dīnī taylika al-‘udwata al-quṣwā

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; I lead that furthest boundary for the sake of my religion.

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Ṣalātan wa-taslīman ‘alā rākibi al-Qaṣwā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; prayer and salutation upon the rider of Al-Qaswa (the Prophet's camel).

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Ṣalātan wa-taslīman tadurru bihā al-anwā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; prayer and salutation through which the rain-clouds pour forth.
