Harful Yaa ·
From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass
Yuhayyiju afkārī li-madḥi al-Muzammili
Gharāmī wa-shawqī lil-jamāli al-mukammili
The passion and longing for that perfected beauty stir my thoughts to praise "The Enwrapped One."
Da‘ānī jamālu al-Muṣṭafā fa-ajabtuhu
Bi-dam‘in ka-wablin min fu’ādin muqattali
The beauty of the Chosen One called me, and I answered him with tears like pouring rain from a heart slain by love.
Arānī uḥibbu al-‘urba wal-ṣaḥba jumlatan
Wa-ālan wa-anṣāran li-ḥubbi al-Muzammili
I find myself loving the Arabs and the companions entirely, as well as the family and the helpers, out of love for "The Enwrapped One."
Wa-lā siy-yamā al-shaykhayni thumma khalīfatan
Yukannā Abā ‘Amrin wa-ṣinwa al-mubajjali
Especially the two Shaykhs (Abu Bakr and Umar), then the successor surnamed Abu 'Amr (Uthman), and the peer of the exalted one (Ali).
Kadhalika min ḥubbayhi ḥubbī li-Ṭaybatin
Wa-Umm al-Qurā al-Baṭḥā ‘alā kulli manzili
Likewise, from his two loves stems my love for Tayba (Medina) and the Mother of Cities (Makkah) above every other dwelling.
Kadhalika min ḥubbayhi ḥubbī tilāwatan
Maqālī wa-ḥālī ḥubbu afḍali mursali
Likewise, from his love is my love for reciting [his praise]; my speech and my state are the love of the best Messenger.
Kadhalika min ḥubbayhi ḥubbu madīḥihi
Wa-asmā’ihi asmā’i khayri mu’ammali
Likewise, from his love is the love of praising him and his names—the names of the best one hoped for.
Wa-ḥubbī li-ahli Allāhi anṣāri dīnihi
Wa-bughḍī li-man ‘ādāhu fī kulli man-hali
And my love for the people of Allah, the helpers of His religion; and my hatred for whoever opposes him in any matter.
Fa-lastu uḥibbu al-dahra shay’an siwā’ahu
Wa-lastu u‘ādī ghayra a‘dā’i maw’ilī
I shall never love anything in this world besides him, and I shall not oppose anyone except the enemies of my refuge.
La‘allī arā mā qad uḥibbu mu’ay-yadan
Bi-faḍli karīmin dūnahu kullu mujzili
Perhaps I shall see what I love supported by the grace of a Generous One, compared to whom every giver is small.
La‘allī arā a‘dā’a dīnī tafar-raqū
Wa-ṣārū jamī‘an taḥta ḥijrin mudhal-lili
Perhaps I shall see the enemies of my religion scattered and all of them brought low under a humbling restraint.
Wa-takhfaqu rāyātu al-ilāhi wa-dīnihi
Bi-kaffi fatan yad‘ū li-dīnī muhallili
And the banners of God and His religion fluttering in the hand of a youth who calls to my religion with "Tahleel."
Alā yā Rasūla Allāhi yā afḍala al-warā
Li-tuṣliḥ shu’ūnī lam ajid ‘anka ma‘dalī
O Messenger of Allah, O best of creation, rectify my affairs, for I have found no turning away from you.
Fa-inniya jārun shā‘iru al-bābi khādimun
Wa-innaka baḥru al-jūdi yā ghawtha murmili
For I am a neighbor, the poet at your door, a servant; and you are the ocean of generosity, O succor of the destitute.
Fa-in abraqa al-a‘dā’u yawman wa-ar‘adū
Fa-inniya jāru al-Muṣṭafa al-mutafaḍ-ḍili
If the enemies flash like lightning and thunder one day, I am the neighbor of the Chosen One, the Most Gracious.
Wa-in shabbati al-nīrānu lil-ḥarbi innanī
Urajjīka annā al-dahra ‘anhā bi-ma‘zali
If the fires of war are kindled, I hope through you that we remain forever secluded from them.
Wa-minka narā fī al-ḥashri wal-faza‘i al-ladhī
Tashību lahu al-wildānu arfa‘a manzili
And from you, we shall see in the Gathering and the Terror—which makes children turn grey—the highest of stations.
‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Wa-ālin wa-ṣaḥbin qad ‘alaw kulla akmali
Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, and upon the family and companions who surpassed all who are perfected.
