# Harful Laam · حَرْفُ اللَّامِ

**1.** لَئِنْ أَحْزَنَ الْأَقْوَامَ هَمٌّ وَأَسْنَتُوا / فَشَمْلُ هُمُومِي بِالْأَمِينِ مُشَتَّتُ

_La’in aḥzana al-aqwāma hammun wa-asnatū / Fa-shamlu humūmī bil-Amīni mushattatu_

If people are saddened by anxiety and fall into famine, the assembly of my worries is scattered by the Trustworthy One.

**2.** لَقَدْ جَاءَ خَيْرُ الْخَلْقِ وَالْجَدْبُ شَامِلٌ / فَأَخْصَبَتِ الدُّنْيَا فَعَاشُــوا وَقُوِّتُــوا

_Laqad jā’a khayru al-khalqi wal-jadbu shāmilun / Fa-akhṣabati al-dunyā fa-‘āshū wa-quwwitū_

The Best of Creation came while the drought was universal, so the world became fertile, and they lived and were nourished.

**3.** فَقَــادَ الْبَرَايَـــــا لِلْهِدَايَـــةِ نَاصِحًــا / وَقَدْ سَمِعُوا الْقُرْآنَ يُتْلَى وَأَنْصَتُوا

_Fa-qāda al-barāyā lil-hidāyati nāṣiḥan / Wa-qad sami‘ū al-Qur’āna yutlā wa-anṣatū_

He led the beings toward guidance as a sincere advisor, and they heard the Quran being recited and listened in silence.

**4.** فَعَمَّ هُـــدَى الْـهَـــادِي الْبَسِيطَـــةَ كُلَّهَــا / وَسَلَّ سُيُوفَ النَّصْرِ صَحْبٌ وَأَصْلَتُوا

_Fa-‘amma huda al-Hādī al-basīṭata kullahā / Wa-salla suyūfa al-naṣri ṣaḥbun wa-aṣlatū_

The guidance of the Guide encompassed the entire earth, and the companions drew the swords of victory and unsheathed them.

**5.** إِلَيْكَ رَسُولَ اللّٰهِ أَشْكُــــو فَإِنَّ تِــي / قُرُونٌ مَحَوْا أَنْوَارَ دِينٍ وَأَشْمَتُوا

_Ilayka Rasūla Allāhi ashkū fa-innatī / Qurūnun maḥaw anwāra dīnin wa-ashmatū_

To you, O Messenger of Allah, I complain, for these are generations who have erased the lights of religion and gloated.

**6.** عَلَيْــــكَ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا كُلُّ الْوَرَى لَكَ أَخْبَتُوا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā kullu al-warā laka akhbatū_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which all of humanity humbles itself before you.

**7.** عَلَيْـــكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / نَكُونُ بِعَيْشٍ حَيْثُـمَا الْقَوْمُ أَسْنَتُوا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Nakūnu bi-‘ayshin ḥaythumā al-qawmu asnatū_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may we be in a state of prosperous life whenever the people face famine.

**8.** عَلَيْكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا أَبْقَـــى لِرَبِّــيَ أَقْنُــتُ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā abqā li-rabbiya aqnutu_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I remain standing in devotion to my Lord.

**9.** عَلَيْــكَ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَمُلْكٌ لِغَيْرِ الْمُسْلِمِيــــنَ مُفَتَّــتُ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-mulkun li-ghayri al-muslimīna mufattatu_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; and may the kingdom of the non-believers be crumbled.

**10.** عَلَيْكَ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَآلٍ وَصَحْبٍ لِلْأَبَاطِيلِ شَتَّتُوا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-ālin wa-ṣaḥbin lil-abāṭīli shattatū_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, and upon the family and companions who scattered all falsehoods.
