# Harful Miim · حَرْفُ الْمِيمِ

**1.** مَحَا حُبُّ خَيرِ الْخَلْقِ حُبَّ سِوَاهُ / بِقَلْبِــي الَّذِي أَحْيَـــاهُ سِـــرُّ سَنَـــاهُ

_Maḥā ḥubbu khayri al-khalqi ḥubba siwāhu / Bi-qalbī alladhī aḥyāhu sirru sanāhu_

The love of the Best of Creation has erased the love of all else from my heart, which has been brought to life by the secret of his brilliance.

**2.** فَلَسْتُ أَرُومُ الْوَصْلَ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَامِدٍ / فَدَعْ عَنْكَ مَحْبُوبًــا سِـــوَاهُ وَهَــاهُ

_Fa-lastu arūmu al-waṣla min ghayri ḥāmidin / Fa-da‘ ‘anka maḥbūban siwāhu wa-hāhu_

I do not seek union with anyone other than the Praiseworthy one; so leave aside any beloved other than him, and take him.

**3.** فَإِنَّ جَمَـــالاً غَيْـــرَ وَجْـــهِ مُحَمَّــدٍ / نَفَاهُ جَمَـــالُ الْمُصْطَفَـــى وَمَحَــاهُ

_Fa-inna jamālan ghayra wajhi Muḥammadin / Nafāhu jamālu al-Muṣṭafā wa-maḥāhu_

For indeed, any beauty other than the face of Muhammad has been negated and erased by the beauty of the Chosen One.

**4.** هُوَ الْحُسْنُ وَالنُّورُ الْمُبِينُ فَمَنْ نَحَا / لِحَضْرَتِـــــهِ بِالْحُـــبِّ نَـــالَ مُنَــاهُ

_Huwa al-ḥusnu wal-nūru al-mubīnu fa-man naḥā / Li-ḥaḍratihi bil-ḥubbi nāla munāhu_

He is beauty and the manifest light; whoever turns toward his presence with love has attained his desire.

**5.** هُوَ الْكُلُّ مِنْهُ الْكُّلُّ حَقًّا وَلَمْ أَكُنْ / أُجَسِّمُ مَعْنًـــى إِذْ قَصَــدْتُ ثَنَــاهُ

_Huwa al-kullu minhu al-kullu ḥaqqan wa-lam akun / Ujassimu ma‘nan idh qaṣadtu thanāhu_

He is the all, and from him is the all, in truth; and I am not anthropomorphizing a meaning when I intend his praise.

**6.** فَإِيَّاكَ وَالْإِعْرَاضَ عَنْ كُلِّ صُورَةٍ / إِذَا رُمْتَ مِنْ سِــرِّ الْوُجُــودِ لِقَــاهُ

_Fa-iyyāka wal-i‘rāḍa ‘an kulli ṣūratin / Idhā rumta min sirri al-wujūdi liqāhu_

So beware of turning away from any form, if you seek to meet him through the secret of existence.

**7.** فَصَلِّ وَصُمْ وَاشْرَبْ وَكُلْ وَانْكِحَنْ وَصِلْ / فَمَــا ثَـــمَّ غَيْـــرُ الْمُصْطَفَـى وَحُــلاَهُ

_Fa-ṣalli wa-ṣum wa-shrab wa-kul wa-nkiḥan wa-ṣil / Fa-mā thamma ghayru al-Muṣṭafā wa-ḥulāhu_

So pray, fast, drink, eat, marry, and maintain ties; for there is nothing there except the Chosen One and his qualities.

**8.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا أُلْفَـــى لِوَسْـــطِ حِمَــاهُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā ulfā li-wasṭi ḥimāhu_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I am found in the midst of his sanctuary.

**9.** عَلَيْـــــهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُـهُ / صَـلاَةً بِهَـــا أَجْنِــي ثِمَارَ جَنَــاهُ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā ajnī thimāra janāhu_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I gather the fruits of his harvest.

**10.** عَلَيْـــــهِ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا دَهْــــرِي أَنَالُ رِضَـاهُ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā dahrī anālu riḍāhu_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I attain his pleasure for all time.

**11.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / أَشُمُّ بِهَا عَـــرْفَ اللِّقَــا وَشَــذَاهُ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ashummu bihā ‘arfa al-liqā wa-shadhāhu_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; through which I smell the scent of the meeting and its fragrance.

**12.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَآلٍ وَصَحْبٍ قَـدْ عَلَوْا بِعُــلاَهُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-ālin wa-ṣaḥbin qad ‘alaw bi-‘ulāhu_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, and upon the family and companions who rose high through his loftiness.
