# Harful 'Ayn · حَرْفُ الْعَيْنِ

**1.** عَلَى الْمُصْطَفَى الْمُخْتَارِ نُورِ الْأَبَاطِحِ / صَلاَةٌ بِهَا تُمْحَـــــى جَمِيـــعُ قَبَائِحِــي

_‘Ala al-Muṣṭafa al-mukhtāri nūri al-abāṭiḥi / Ṣalātun bihā tumḥā jamī‘u qabā’iḥī_

Upon the Chosen, the Selected, the Light of the Valleys; a prayer through which all my ugliness is erased.

**2.** دَرَأْتُ فَسَــــــادِي بِالْمَدَائِــــحِ جَالِبًــا / صَلاَحِي بِذِكْرِ الْمُصْطَفَى وَالْمَدَائِـحِ

_Dara’tu fasādī bil-madā’iḥi jāliban / Ṣalāḥī bi-dhikri al-Muṣṭafā wal-madā’iḥi_

I have repelled my corruption through praises, bringing about my righteousness through the remembrance of the Chosen One and the odes.

**3.** وَقَدْ شَابَ فَوْدِي فِي الْمُجُونِ وَلَمْ أَزَلْ / أَسِيرَ الْهَـوَى مَا شِمْتُ بَـــرْقَ الْمَرَابِــحِ

_Wa-qad shāba fawdī fī al-mujūni wa-lam azal / Asīra al-hawā mā shimtu barqa al-marābiḥi_

The hair on my temples has turned grey in vanity, while I remain a captive of passion, never having glimpsed the lightning of true profits.

**4.** وَلَمْ أَرَ شَيْئًا غَيْرَ دَعْوَى مَحَبَّـــةِ / الْأَمِينِ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَرْسَخَنْ فِي جَوَانِحِي

_Wa-lam ara shay’an ghayra da‘wā maḥabbati / Al-amīni wa-law lam tarsakhan fī jawāniḥī_

I have seen nothing [in my records] except the claim of love for the Trustworthy One, even if it has not firmly rooted itself in my ribs.

**5.** وَمَدْحِي لَـــهُ مُزْجَى الْبِضَاعَةِ قَاصِرًا / عَنِ الشَّأْوِ هَلْ يَرْضَى الْمُقَفَّى مَدَائِحِي

_Wa-madḥī lahu muzjā al-biḍā‘ati qāṣiran / ‘An al-sha’wi hal yarḍa al-Muqaffā madā’iḥī_

My praise for him is a "scanty merchandise," falling short of the goal; will the Final Prophet accept my praises?

**6.** فَمَا ثَمَّ مَرْجُوٌّ سِوَى فَضْلِ خَالِقِي / لِذَا الْعَبْدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَيْنِ الْقَبَائِــــحِ

_Fa-mā thamma marjūwun siwā faḍli khāliqī / Li-dhā al-‘abdi Ibrāhīma ‘ayni al-qabā’iḥi_

There is no one to hope in except the grace of my Creator for this servant, Ibrahim, the very essence of ugliness.

**7.** صَلاَةٌ عَلَى الْمُخْتَارِ مِنْ آلِ هَاشِمٍ / مُحَمَّدٍ الْـهَادِي مُنِيــــرِ الْأَبَاطِــحِ

_Ṣalātun ‘ala al-mukhtāri min āli Hāshimin / Muḥammadin al-Hādī munīri al-abāṭiḥi_

Blessings upon the Selected from the family of Hashim, Muhammad the Guide, the Illuminator of the Valleys.

**8.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / يَكُونُ الَّذِي يَسْعَى لِضَيْرِي كَنَاطِحِ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yakūnu alladhī yas‘ā li-ḍayrī ka-nāṭiḥi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may whoever seeks to harm me be like one butting [a mountain].

**9.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــــمَّ سَلاَمُــــهُ / وَتُزْجِي لِـهَـذَا الْعَبْدِ كُلَّ الْمَنَائِـــحِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-tuzjī li-hādhā al-‘abdi kulla al-manā’iḥi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; and may it drive all gifts toward this servant.

**10.** عَلَيْهِ صَـــــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ / فَتُبْعِدُ عَنِّي الشُّؤْمَ مِـــنْ كُلِّ بَارِحِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Fa-tub‘idu ‘annī al-shu’ma min kulli bāriḥi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; so it keeps away from me the ill-omen of every misfortune.

**11.** عَلَيْهِ صَــــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ / وَآلٍ وَصَحْبٍ كُلَّ غَــادٍ وَرَائِـحِ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-ālin wa-ṣaḥbin kulla ghādin wa-rā’iḥi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, and upon the family and companions, every morning and every evening.
