# Harful Hhamza · حَرْفُ الْهَمْزَةِ

**1.** أَبَى لِيَ سِرٌّ حَلَّ بَيْـــنَ حَشَائِـــي / تَنَاسِي حَبِيبِ اللّٰهِ عَيْنِ الصَّفَــاءِ

_Abā liya sirrun ḥalla bayna ḥashā’ī / Tanāsī ḥabībi Allāhi ‘ayni al-ṣafā’ī_

A secret that has settled within my innards has forbidden me from ever forgetting the Beloved of Allah, the essence of purity.

**2.** أَهِيمُ بِــهِ إِنْ هَـامَ غَيْرِي بِزَيْنَبٍ / وَتَذْكَــارُهُ عِنْـــدِي أَلَـــذُّ غِــذَاءِ

_Ahīmu bihi in hāma ghayrī bi-Zaynabin / Wa-tadhkāruhu ‘indī aladh-dhu ghidhā’ī_

I am infatuated with him while others are infatuated with "Zaynab"; and his remembrance is to me the most delicious nourishment.

**3.** أَهِيمُ بِهِ مَا عِشْــــتُ دُونَ تَغَنُّــجٍ / وَلِي وَلَـهٌ فِيـــــهِ بُعَيْـــدَ فَنَائِــي

_Ahīmu bihi mā ‘ishtu dūna taghannujin / Wa-li walahun fīhi bu‘ayda fanā’ī_

I am infatuated with him as long as I live, without pretense; and I possess a passionate longing for him even after my passing.

**4.** إِذَا انْصَرَفَ الْوَارُونَ عَنْ دَفْنِ جُثَّتِي / بَقِيــــتُ بِـــــهِ أَحْيَــــا لِيَــــوْمِ لِقَــاءِ

_Idhā-nṣarafa al-wārūna ‘an dafni juth-thatī / Baqītu bihi aḥyā li-yawmi liqā’ī_

When those who bury my body turn to leave, I remain alive through him until the Day of Meeting.

**5.** إِذَا عَبَدَ الْعُبَّــــــادُ فِي الْقَبْـــرِ إِنَّنِــي / بِذِكْرِ رَسُــــــولِ اللّٰهِ وَقْــتَ تَوَائِــي

_Idhā ‘abada al-‘ubbādu fī al-qabri innanī / Bi-dhikri Rasūli Allāhi waqta tawā’ī_

If the worshippers perform their worship in the grave, then I am occupied with the remembrance of the Messenger of Allah during my stay there.

**6.** أَنِسْتُ بِـــهِ وَحْـــدِي كَفَانِــي جَمَالُــهُ / عَنِ الْغَانِيَــاتِ الْبِيضِ وَسْــطَ خِبَاءِ

_Anistu bihi waḥdī kafānī jamāluhu / ‘An al-ghāniyāti al-bīḍi wasṭa khibā’ī_

I found intimacy in him alone; his beauty sufficed me over the fair maidens within the tents.

**7.** إِذَا جَمَعُوا الْأَمْوَالَ وَافْتَخَرُوا بِهَــا / فَفَخْرِي وَمَالِي حُـــبُّ زَيْنِ مَـلاَءِ

_Idhā jama‘ū al-amwāla wa-ftakharū bihā / Fa-fakhrī wa-mālī ḥubbu zayni malā’ī_

If they gather wealth and boast of it, then my pride and my wealth are the love of the one who is the best of the world.

**8.** إِذَا مَكَرُوا مَكْــرًا كُفِيـــتُ بِذِكْــرِهِ / وَإِنْ مَرَضٌ يَعْـرُو فَفِيــهِ شِفَائِــي

_Idhā makarū makran kufītu bi-dhikrihi / Wa-in maraḍun ya‘rū fa-fīhi shifā’ī_

If they plot a scheme, I am protected by his remembrance; and if a disease afflicts me, in him is my cure.

**9.** عَلَيْـــــهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / لِيُرْضِي رَسُـــولَ اللّٰهِ كُــلُّ ثَنَائِــي

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Li-yurḍiya Rasūla Allāhi kullu thanā’ī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may all my praise be pleasing to the Messenger of Allah.

**10.** عَلَيْـــــهِ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / أَكُونُ بِحَشْرِي تَحْتَ ظِـــلِّ للِّــوَاءِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Akūnu bi-ḥashrī taḥta ẓilli liwā’ī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may I be, at my Gathering, beneath the shade of the banner.

**11.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / أَنَالُ لَدَى الْأُخْرَى كَمَـالَ الرِّضَــاءِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Anālu lada al-ukhrā kamāla al-riḍā’ī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may I attain, in the Hereafter, the perfection of pleasure.

**12.** عَلَيْــــــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَيَكْفِي رَسُولُ اللّٰهِ أَهْـــلَ الْبَــذَاءِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-yakfī Rasūlu Allāhi ahla al-badhā’ī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; and may the Messenger of Allah suffice against the people of obscenity.

**13.** عَلَيْـــهِ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / يَنَالُ مُحِبِّي الدَّهْــرَ كُـــلَّ مُنَــاءِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yanālu muḥibbī al-dahra kulla munā’ī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may my lover attain all his desires throughout time.

**14.** عَلَيْـــكَ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / خَدِيمُكَ يَعْلُـو كُلَّ أَهْـــلِ عَــلاَءِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Khadīmuka ya‘lū kulla ahli ‘alā’ī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may your servant rise above all people of high rank.

**15.** عَلَيْهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَأَنْوَارُهَا تَعْلُـــو عَنَــانَ سَمَــاءِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-anwāruhā ta‘lū ‘anāna samā’ī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may its lights rise to the clouds of the sky.

**16.** عَلَيْـــهِ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَآلٍ وَصَحْــبٍ ثُــمَّ آلِ عَبَــاءِ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-ālin wa-ṣaḥbin thumma āli ‘abā’ī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, and upon the family, the companions, and the People of the Cloak.
