# Harful Baa · حَرْفُ الْبَاءِ

**1.** بَرِئْتُ مِنَ الْإِشْرَاكِ وَالشَّكِّ وَالْعُجْبِ / بِحُبِّ رَسُــولِ اللّٰهِ فِي الْبُعْدِ وَالْقُـرْبِ

_Bari’tu mina al-ishrāki wash-shakki wal-‘ujbi / Bi-ḥubbi Rasūli Allāhi fī al-bu‘di wal-qurbi_

I have been cleared of polytheism, doubt, and vanity, through the love of the Messenger of Allah in both distance and proximity.

**2.** سَلِمْتُ مِنَ الْأَغْرَاضِ أَخْلَصْتُ وِجْهَتِي / لِرَبِّي وَعَنِّي زَالَ غَيْبِــي مَـعَ الْحُجْـبِ

_Salimtu mina al-aghrāḍi akhlaṣtu wijhatī / Li-rabbī wa-‘annī zāla ghaybī ma‘a al-ḥujbi_

I have been saved from personal motives; I have made my direction sincere toward my Lord, and my "unseen" [distractions] and veils have vanished from me.

**3.** وَأَمْـــدَحُ خَيْـــرَ الْخَلْـــقِ خَادِمَ بَابِــهِ / وَيَذْكُرُهُ رُوحِي وَسِرِّي كَـذَا قَلْبِــي

_Wa-amdaḥu khayra al-khalqi khādima bābihi / Wa-yadhkuruhu rūḥī wa-sirrī kadhā qalbī_

I praise the Best of Creation as a servant at his door; my soul, my secret, and my heart all remember him.

**4.** كَفَانِـيَ كَوْنِي شَاعِــرَ الْبَابِ خَــادِمًا / بِخِدْمَةِ خَيْرِ الْخَلْقِ فَارَقَنِي عَيْبِــي

_Kafāniya kawnī shā‘ira al-bābi khādimā / Bi-khidmati khayra al-khalqi fāraqanī ‘aybī_

It is enough for me to be the poet of the Door, as a servant; through the service of the Best of Creation, my flaws have departed from me.

**5.** فَكَعْـــبٌ وَحَسَّـــانٌ أُنِيـــلاَ كَرَامَــةً / بِمَدْحِكَ يَا مَامُونُ فِي الْجَهْرِ وَالْغَيْبِ

_Fa-Ka‘bun wa-Ḥassānun unīlā karāmatan / Bi-madḥika yā māmūnu fī al-jahri wal-ghaybi_

For Ka‘b and Hassan were granted miracles through praising you, O Trustworthy One, in public and in private.

**6.** وَإِنِّـيَ فِي عَصْرِ الْجَهَالَةِ وَالْهَــوَى / لَمَادِحُهُ فِي حَالَةِ الْبَسْطِ وَالْكَـرْبِ

_Wa-inniya fī ‘aṣri al-jahālati wal-hawā / La-mādiḥuhu fī ḥālati al-basṭi wal-karbi_

And indeed, in this age of ignorance and passion, I am his praiser in states of both expansion and distress.

**7.** يُفَرِّجُ عَنِّي كُــــــلَّ كَــرْبٍ وَأَنْثَنِي / بِجَائِزَةٍ عَنْ عَدِّهَــــــا يَنْثَنِي لُبِّــي

_Yufar-riju ‘annī kulla karbin wa-anthanī / Bi-jā’izatin ‘an ‘addihā yanthanī lubbī_

He relieves every distress for me, and I return with a reward so great that my intellect fails to count it.

**8.** عَلَيْـــــهِ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صَلاَةً تُرَقِّينَا إِلَى الذِّكْرِ وَالْحُـــبِّ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan turaqqīnā ila al-dhikri wal-ḥubbi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer that elevates us to [the stations of] remembrance and love.

**9.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــــهُ / وَيَذْكُرُنِي الْمُخْتَارُ : يَا خَادِمِي حِبِّي

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-yadhkurunī al-Mukhtāru: yā khādimī ḥibbī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may the Chosen One mention me: "O my servant, my beloved."

**10.** عَلَيْـــــــــهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / يُطَهِّرُ آلِــــي ثُـــمَّ نَسْلِي كَذَا تُرْبِــي

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yuṭah-hiru ālī thumma naslī kadhā turbī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may it purify my family, my progeny, and my very soil.

**11.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَيَشْكُرُ سَعْيِي وَالْمُهَيْمِنُ لِي يُرْبِي

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-yash-kuru sa‘yī wal-Muhayminu lī yurbī_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may he thank my effort, and may the All-Preserving Lord increase it for me.

**12.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَيَسْقِينِيَ الْمَحْمُودُ بِالْمَنْهَلِ الْعَذْبِي

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-yasqīniya al-Maḥmūdu bil-manhali al-‘adhbi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may the Praiseworthy One give me to drink from the sweet watering-place.

**13.** عَلَيْـــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا نَبْقَى مَعَ الْيُمْنِ وَالْخِصْبِ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā nabqā ma‘a al-yumni wal-khiṣbi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which we remain in prosperity and fertility.

**14.** عَلَيْـــــــــهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ / مِنَ الْعَبْــــدِ إِبْرَاهِيـــمَ لِلنَّاصِــرِ الرَّبِّ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Mina al-‘abdi Ibrāhīma lin-nāṣiri al-rabbi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; from the servant Ibrahim to the Helper, the Lord.

**15.** عَلَيْــــــــــهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / مَعَ الْأَهْلِ وَالْأَوْلاَدِ وَالْآلِ وَالصَّحْـــبِ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ma‘a al-ahli wal-awlādi wal-āli waṣ-ṣaḥbi_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, along with the family, the children, the kin, and the companions.
