Harful Jiim ·
From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass
Jaza Allāhu ‘annī ẓulmata al-layli wad-dujā
Fa-fīhā yanālu al-ṣabbu lil-ḥubbi makhrajā
May Allah reward on my behalf the darkness of the night and the gloom; for in it, the lover finds an exit for his love.
Yabītu yurā‘ī al-najma wal-kullu rāqidun
Yunāẓẓimu durran bal yunāẓẓimu abhajā
He spends the night watching the stars while everyone else is asleep; arranging pearls—nay, arranging that which is most joyful.
Tadhakkara khayra al-khalqi Ṭāhā Muḥammadan
Jamīla al-muḥayyā ablajan kāna ad‘ajā
He remembered the Best of Creation, Taha Muhammad; the one of beautiful countenance, radiant with deep black eyes.
‘Aẓīmun ‘aẓīmu al-khulqi wal-jūdi wal-‘aṭā
Shafīqun shafī‘un min dujā al-kufri akhrajā
Magnificent! Magnificent in character, generosity, and giving; compassionate, an intercessor who brought [us] out of the gloom of disbelief.
Wa-dhāka al-ladhī lawlāhu mā kāna kā’inun
Wa-lawlāhu lam nasluk ila al-ḥaqqi manhajā
That is the one without whom nothing would have existed; and without whom we would not have followed a path to the Truth.
Da‘ā al-khalqa lil-mawlā bi-kulli fi‘ālihi
Wa-fī ḥaqqihi yaghdū wa-rāḥa wa-adlajā
He called the creation to the Master with all his actions; and for His sake, he went out in the morning, the evening, and the deep night.
Qalawhu wa-ādhawhu bi-kulli idhāyatin
Fa-qāda al-barāyā lil-ḥanīfati mūlijā
They hated him and harmed him with every kind of injury; yet he led the beings into the Upright Faith, making them enter it.
Wa-jāhadahum fī Allāhi ḥaqqa jihādihi
Wa-nawwara aqṭāra al-bilādi wa-asrajā
He strove against them for the sake of Allah with the truest striving; he illuminated the regions of the lands and lit the lamps.
Alam ya’tihim mā qad laqawhu bi-Badrihi
Wa-qad bazagha al-dīnu al-ḥanīfiyyu ablajā
Did there not come to them what they encountered at his [battle of] Badr? When the Upright Religion dawned, shining brightly.
Kadhalika Uḥudan jā’ū wa-bā’ū bi-ṣadmatin
Fa-wallaw firāran ḥaythumā al-ru‘bu az‘ajā
Likewise at Uhud, they came and returned with a shock; they turned in flight wherever terror disturbed them.
Wa-qad qāda lil-Baṭḥā’i jayshan ‘aramraman
Fa-dhallū wa-qad dānū mina al-khawfi war-rajā
And he led toward Makkah (Al-Baṭḥā’) a vast, thundering army; so they were humbled, submitting out of both fear and hope.
Fa-yā rabbi hab lī bil-Amīni wa-ṣaḥbihi
Kamāla murādī lis-sa‘ādati muntijā
O my Lord, grant me—by the Trustworthy One and his companions—the perfection of my desire, producing true happiness.
‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Ma‘a al-āli waṣ-ṣaḥbi al-kirāmi wa-man najā
Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; along with the family, the noble companions, and whoever is saved.
