# Harful Yaa · حَرْفُ الْيَاءِ

**1.** يُذَكِّرُنِي الْبَرْقُ الْوَمِيـــضُ الْمَغَانِيَــا / عَقِيقًــــا وَسَلْعًـــا وَالنَّقَــا وَالْعَوَالِيَــا

_Yudhakkirunī al-barqu al-wamīḍu al-maghāniyā / ‘Aqīqan wa-Sal‘an wan-Naqā wal-‘Awāliyā_

The flashing lightning reminds me of the dwellings: al-Aqiq, Mount Sal’, al-Naqa, and the Heights (al-‘Awāli).

**2.** قَـعَدْتُ لَــــــهُ بِكُــــوسِ وَالْحَيُّ كُلُّهُــمْ / رُقُودٌ أَشِيمُ الْمُعْصِـــرَاتِ السَّوَارِيَــا

_Qa‘adtu lahu bi-Kūsin wal-ḥayyu kulluhumu / Ruqūdun ashīmu al-mu‘ṣirāti al-sawāriyā_

I sat for it [in devotion] in Kaous, while all the people were asleep, watching the rain-bearing clouds of the night.

**3.** سَقَى اللّٰهُ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْمُــزُونِ مَرَابِعًــا / تَوَطَّنَهَـــــا الْمُخْتَارُ لِلْكُفْــرِ مَاحِيَــا

_Saqā Allāhu min tilka al-muzūni marābi‘ā / Tawaṭ-ṭanahā al-Mukhtāru lil-kufri māḥiyā_

May Allah water from those clouds the regions where the Chosen One settled, erasing disbelief.

**4.** نَفَى عَنْ جُفُونِي النَّوْمَ حُـــبُّ مُحَمَّــدٍ / بِتَذْكَـــــارِهِ لَيْلِـــي سَلَــوْتُ الْغَوَانِيَــا

_Nafā ‘an jufūnī al-nawma ḥubbu Muḥammadin / Bi-tadhkārihi laylī salawtu al-ghawāniyā_

The love of Muhammad has banished sleep from my eyelids; through his remembrance at night, I have forgotten all worldly beauties.

**5.** أَبِيـــــتُ بِلَيْـــلٍ نَابِغِيٍّ وَقَدْ سَـــرَتْ / حُمَيَّــا وِدَادِي فِي جَمِيــعِ حَشَائِيَـــــا

_Abītu bi-laylin nābighiyyin wa-qad sarat / Ḥumayyā widādī fī jamī‘i ḥashā’iyā_

I spend a night like that of al-Nabigha, while the intoxication of my love has surged through all my innards.

**6.** أُنَـــادِي حَبِيـــبَ اللّٰهِ طَـــهَ مُحَمَّــــدًا / أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ الْـهَادِي الْمُقَفَّـــى مُنَاجِيَــا

_Unādī ḥabība Allāhi Ṭāhā Muḥammadan / Abā al-Qāsimi al-Hādī al-Muqaffā munājiyā_

I call upon the Beloved of Allah, Taha Muhammad; Abul Qasim, the Guide, the Final Prophet, in intimate prayer.

**7.** لِتَرْحَمْ خَدِيمًــا ضَارِعًا عِنْــدَ بَابِــكَ / الْمُؤَمَّلِ يَــا مَحْمُـــودُ فَانْظُرْ لِحَالِيَــا

_Li-tarḥam khadīman ḍāri‘an ‘inda bābika / Al-mu’ammali yā Maḥmūdu fanẓur li-ḥāliyā_

May you have mercy on a humble servant at your door—the door of hope, O Praiseworthy One; so look upon my state.

**8.** عَلَيْـــــــكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا نَيْلِــي الْعُـــلاَ وَالْمَعَالِيَــا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā naylī al-‘ulā wal-ma‘āliyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I attain high ranks and loftiness.

**9.** عَلَيْـــكَ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صَــلاَةً بِهَا أَلْقَــى لَدَيْــكَ الْأَمَانِيَــا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā alqā ladayka al-amāniyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I find my aspirations fulfilled with you.

**10.** عَلَيْــــكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا أُهْدَى فَأُصْبِــــحُ هَادِيَـا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā uhdā fa-uṣbiḥu hādiyā_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I am guided and thus become a guide.

**11.** عَلَيْـــكَ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا أَبْقَـــى كَرِيمًــا مُوَاسِيَــا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā abqā karīman muwāsiyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I remain generous and comforting.

**12.** عَلَيْـــــــكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُـهُ / أَكُونُ بِهَا فَرْدًا عَلَى الْكُـــلِّ سَامِيَــا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Akūnu bihā fardan ‘ala al-kulli sāmiyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; through which I become a unique individual, rising above all.

**13.** عَلَيْــــكَ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صَلاَةً بِهَا أَبْقَى وَفَيْضِـــيَ جَارِيَا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣalātan bihā abqā wa-fayḍiya jāriyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; a prayer through which I endure and my flood of grace remains flowing.

**14.** عَلَيْــــــكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / يَكُـــونُ بِهَــا نَسْلِـــي هُــدَاةً وَآلِيَــا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yakūnu bihā naslī hudātan wa-āliyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; through which my progeny and family become guides.

**15.** عَلَيْــــــكَ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــــــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / تَصُونُ بِهَا مِصْرِي الْعُصُورَ الْخَوَالِيَا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Taṣūnu bihā miṣrī al-‘uṣūra al-khawāliyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may you protect through it my land throughout the passing ages.

**16.** عَلَيْـــــكَ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُـــــهُ / لِيُرْضِـــي رَسُـــــولَ اللّٰهِ كُـــلُّ ثَنَائِيَــا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Li-yurḍiya Rasūla Allāhi kullu thanā’iyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may all my praise be pleasing to the Messenger of Allah.

**17.** عَلَيْـــــكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــــــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / يُجِيبُ بِهَــا الْمَـــوْلَى جَمِيـــعَ دُعَائِيَــا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yujību bihā al-Mawlā jamī‘a du‘ā’iyā_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; through which the Master answers all my prayers.

**18.** عَلَيْـــــكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــــــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَآلٍ وَصَحْبٍ شَيَّـــدُوا الدِّينَ عَالِيَـــا

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-ālin wa-ṣaḥbin shay-yadū al-dīna ‘āliyā_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, and upon the family and companions who built the religion high.
