# Harful Laam · حَرْفُ اللَّامِ

**1.** لَئِنْ عَزَّنِي لُقْيَـــا النَّبِي وَوِصَــالُهُ / فَقَــــدْ دَامَ لِــي تَذْكَـــارُهُ وَخَيَــالُهُ

_La’in ‘azzanī luqyā al-nabiyyi wa-wiṣāluhu / Fa-qad dāma lī tadhkāruhu wa-khayāluhu_

If the physical meeting and union with the Prophet is difficult for me, his remembrance and his image remain constantly with me.

**2.** وَإِنْ عَزَّنِي مَــــدْحٌ لَــهُ وَثَنَــاؤُهُ / فَقَــدْ تَيَّمَـــانِــي نُــورُهُ وَجَمَالُـــهُ

_Wa-in ‘azzanī madḥun lahu wa-thanā’uhu / Fa-qad tayyamānī nūruhu wa-jamāluhu_

If I find it difficult to praise and extol him as he deserves, his light and his beauty have already enraptured me.

**3.** شُغِفْتُ بِطَــهَ الْـهَاشِمِــــيِّ وَإِنَّنِــي / سَبَانِي جَمَالُ الْمُصْطَفَى وَجَلاَلُـهُ

_Shughiftu bi-Ṭāhā al-Hāshimiyyi wa-innanī / Sabānī jamālu al-Muṣṭafā wa-jalāluhu_

I am infatuated with Taha the Hashemite, and indeed, the beauty and majesty of the Chosen One have taken me captive.

**4.** وَقَدْ رَفَعَ الْمَوْلَى الْعَلِي جَلَّ ذِكْرَهُ / وَقَدْ زَيَّنَ الْإِنْسَانَ خَلْقًــــا مِثَالُــهُ

_Wa-qad rafa‘a al-Mawlā al-‘Aliyyu jalla dhikrahu / Wa-qad zayyana al-insāna khalqan mithāluhu_

The Most High Master—Majestic is His mention—has raised his rank, and his form has beautified the very essence of man.

**5.** وَقَدْ سَطَّرَ الرَّحْمَانُ فِي الْعَرْشِ ذِكْرَهُ / أَبُــــــو بَشَـــــــرٍ مِـــنْ ذَا أَتَــاهُ نَوَالُــهُ

_Wa-qad saṭ-ṭara al-Raḥmānu fī al-‘arshi dhikrahu / Abū basharin min dhā atāhu nawāluhu_

The Most Merciful inscribed his name upon the Throne; the Father of Humanity (Adam) received his bounty from this [source].

**6.** بِكُـــــــــلِّ أَذَانٍ ذِكْــــــرُهُ وَثَنَـــــــــــاؤُهُ / وَفِي الذِّكْرِ مَدْحُ الْمُصْطَفَـــى وَكَمَالُــهُ

_Bi-kulli adhānin dhikruhu wa-thanā’uhu / Wa-fī al-dhikri madḥu al-Muṣṭafā wa-kamāluhu_

In every call to prayer, his name and praise are mentioned; and in the Divine Remembrance (Quran), the praise and perfection of the Chosen One are found.

**7.** وَمِنْ قَبْـــلُ فِي التَّـــــــوْرَاةِ ذِكْرُ مُحَمَّــدٍ / وَإِنْجِيـــــلُ عِيسَـــى فِيـــهِ بَانَ خِصَالُــهُ

_Wa-min qablu fī al-Tawrāti dhikru Muḥammadin / Wa-injīlu ‘Īsā fīhi bāna khiṣāluhu_

And long ago, in the Torah, Muhammad was mentioned; and the Gospel of Jesus made his noble traits clear.

**8.** تَمَنَّـــى كَلِيــــمُ اللّٰهِ لَــوْ كَانَ وَاحِــــــدًا / مِنْ أُمَّـــــةِ خَيْــــرِ الْخَلْــــقِ ذَاكَ مَقَالُــهُ

_Tamannā Kalīmu Allāhi law kāna wāḥidan / Min ummati khayri al-khalqi dhāka maqāluhu_

The one who spoke with Allah (Moses) wished that he were but one member of the nation of the Best of Creation—that was his plea.

**9.** وَإِنْ جَـــــــاءَ رُوحُ اللّٰهِ عِيسَـــى فَإِنَّــهُ / مِــــنْ أُمَّتِــــهِ تَحْكِـــي الْفِعَـــالَ فِعَالُــهُ

_Wa-in jā’a Rūḥu Allāhi ‘Īsā fa-innahu / Min ummatihi taḥkī al-fi‘āla fi‘āluhu_

And when the Spirit of Allah, Jesus, returns, he shall be from his nation, his actions reflecting the Prophet’s own actions.

**10.** يُصَلِّي بِــــــهِ الْمَهْـــدِيُّ يَا فَـــوْزَ أُمَّــةٍ / يَؤُمُّهُـــــمُ طَـــــهَ وَعِيسَـــى وَآلُــــــهُ

_Yuṣallī bi-hi al-Mahdiyyu yā fawza ummatin / Ya’ummuhumu Ṭāhā wa-‘Īsā wa-āluhu_

The Mahdi shall pray with him—O the success of a nation led by Taha, Jesus, and his Family!

**11.** أُرَجِّي لِقَا الْمَهْــــدِيِّ عَــوْنًا وَمُرْشِــدًا / لَهُ كُلَّ وَقْتٍ مِــــــنْ رِضَـــايَ مَجَالُــهُ

_Urajjī liqā al-Mahdiyyi ‘awnan wa-murshidan / Lahu kulla waqtin min riḍāya majāluhu_

I hope for the meeting with the Mahdi as an aid and a guide; for him, at all times, there is a place in my heart's pleasure.

**12.** فَتُمْسِي النَّصَارَى كَالْجَلِيدِ تَشَعْشَعَــــتْ / عَلَيْهِ ذُكَــــــاءٌ ، كُلُّهُـــمْ ضَـــاقَ حَالُــهُ

_Fa-tumsī al-Naṣārā kal-jalīdi tasha‘-sha‘at / ‘Alayhi dhukā’un kulluhum ḍāqa ḥāluhu_

Then the [disbelieving] Christians shall become like ice upon which the sun has shone; they shall all melt away and their state shall become narrow.

**13.** فَيَـــــا رَبِّ عَجِّـــلْ بِالنَّبِــــــــيِّ مُحَمَّــدٍ / زَوَالَ عَــــذَابٍ آنَ مِنْــــــــكَ زَوَالُـــــهُ

_Fa-yā rabbi ‘ajjil bin-nabiyyi Muḥammadin / Zawāla ‘adhābin āna minka zawāluhu_

O my Lord, hasten through the Prophet Muhammad the removal of a punishment whose time for removal has come from You.

**14.** عَلَيْـــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُـــــــهُ / يَكُـــــونُ عَـــدُوِّي شُــدَّ مِنْــكَ وَبَالُــهُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yakūnu ‘aduwwī shudda minka wabāluhu_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may my enemy’s ruin be tightened by You.

**15.** عَلَيْــــــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / يَكُونُ فِعَــــالُ الْعَبْــــدِ فِيـــكَ وَقَالُــهُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yakūnu fi‘ālu al-‘abdi fīka wa-qāluhu_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may the servant’s actions and words be solely for Your sake.

**16.** عَلَيْهِ مَـــــعَ الْآلِ الْكِـــرَامِ وَصَحْبِــهِ / صَلاَةٌ بِهَـــــا لُقْيَـــا النَّبِي وَوِصَالُــهُ

_‘Alayhi ma‘a al-āli al-kirāmi wa-ṣaḥbihi / Ṣalātun bihā luqyā al-nabiyyi wa-wiṣāluhu_

Upon him, along with the noble family and his companions, be a prayer through which the meeting and union with the Prophet are achieved.
