Harful Dhaal · حَرْفُ الذَّالِ

ذَكَرْتُ الَّذِي بِالـــذِّكْرِ مِنْـــهُ تَلَـذُّذِي
نَبِيًّــــا بِعُلْيَــــاهُ عَـــلاَ كُـــلَّ جِهْبِــذِ

Dhakartu al-ladhī bidh-dhikri minhu taladh-dhudhī
Nabiyyan bi-‘ulyāhu ‘alā kulla jihbidhī

I remembered the one in whose remembrance my soul finds sweetness; a Prophet whose loftiness surpasses every brilliant scholar.

مُحَمَّدُ أُنْسِي وَهْوَ كَنْزِي وَمَلْجَئِـي
وَسِرِّي وَمِنْ كُلِّ الْبَلِيَّاتِ مُنْقِـذِي

Muḥammadu unsī wa-huwa kanzī wa-malja’ī
Wa-sirrī wa-min kulli al-baliyyāti munqidhī

Muhammad is my intimacy, he is my treasure and my refuge; he is my secret and my rescuer from every calamity.

وَهُوَ الَّـــذِي لَمْ يَـــــدْعُ دَاعٍ بِذِكْــرِهِ
وَلَمْ يُسْتَجَــــبْ وَالذِّكْرُ عَيْــنُ تَلَذُّذِي

Wa-huwa al-ladhī lam yad‘u dā‘in bi-dhikrihi
Wa-lam yustajab wadh-dhikru ‘aynu taladh-dhudhī

He is the one such that no supplicant has ever called out using his name without being answered; and his remembrance is the very essence of my delight.

بِهِ آدَمٌ قَدْ تِـــيبَ حِيــــنَ تَقَطَّعَـــتْ
وَسَائِلُهُ مَــــا إِنْ يَرَى مِنْ مُنَقِّـــذِ

Bihi Ādamu qad tība ḥīna taqaṭ-ṭa‘at
Wasā’iluhu mā in yarā min munaqqidhī

Through him, Adam’s repentance was accepted when all his means were cut off and he saw no other rescuer.

وَنُوحٌ وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ مُوسَى وَيُونُـــسٌ
وَعِيسَى وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ وَالْكُلُّ جِهْبِذِي

Wa-Nūḥun wa-Ibrāhīmu Mūsā wa-Yūnusu
Wa-‘Īsā wa-Ismā‘īlu wal-kullu jihbidhī

And Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jonah, Jesus, and Ishmael—every one of them a brilliant master—[relied on him].

عَلَيْــــــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
فَإِنِّي لِوَصْلِ الْمُصْطَفَى الْغَوْثِ كَالَّــذِي

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Fa-innī li-waṣli al-Muṣṭafā al-ghawthi kal-ladhī

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; for indeed, I am [striving] for union with the Chosen One, the Succor.

عَلَيْــــــــــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
فَـــــلاَ اَكُ يَوْمًــــا فِـــي سِــوَاهُ تَلَــذُّذِي

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Falā aku yawman fī siwāhu taladh-dhudhī

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may I never find sweetness in anything other than him.

عَلَيْــــــــــهِ صَــــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
أَجُـــــــــودُ بِمَـــــــــدْحٍ فَائِــــقٍ لِزُمُـــرُّذِ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Ajūdu bi-madḥin fā’iqin li-zumurrudhī

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; I offer a praise that surpasses the beauty of emeralds.

عَلَيْــــــهِ صَــــــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
أَغِثْنَـــا بِيُمْـــــنِ الْـهَاشِمِــــيِّ وَأَنْقِـــــذِ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Aghithnā bi-yumni al-Hāshimiyyi wa-anqidhī

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; aid us and rescue us through the blessing of the Hashemite.

عَلَيْــــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــــــمَّ سَلاَمُــــــهُ
لِتُطْرِحْ رُؤُوسَ الْكُفْـــرِ طُرًّا وَتَنْبُــذِ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Li-tuṭriḥ ru’ūsa al-kufri ṭurran wa-tanbudhī

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; that the heads of disbelief may be cast down entirely and discarded.
