Harfu Laamil Alif · حَرْفُ لَامِ الْأَلِفِ

لَدَى الْمُصْطَفَى هَبْ لِي رِضًا وَقَبُولاَ
فَقَدْ عَزَّنِـــــي نَيْلِــي إِلَيْــــهِ وُصُـــولاَ

Lada al-Muṣṭafā hab lī riḍan wa-qabūlā
Fa-qad ‘azzanī naylī ilayhi wuṣūlā

In the presence of the Chosen One, grant me pleasure and acceptance, for reaching union with him has become difficult for me.

وَذَا عَجَبٌ كَالْعِيـــسِ وَالْمَاءُ فَوْقَهَــا
تَمُوتُ ظِمَــــــــاءً مَـــا تَنَالُ سَبِيـــلاَ

Wa-dhā ‘ajabun kal-‘īsi wal-mā’u fawqahā
Tamūtu ẓimā’an mā tanālu sabīlā

This is a wonder—like the camels who carry water upon their backs, yet die of thirst because they cannot find a way to it.

وَقَدْ شَدَّ فَقْرِي وَافْتِقَارِي وَلَمْ أَجِـــدْ
سِوَى الْمُصْطَفَى الْمَاحِي يُنِيلُ فَتِيــلاَ

Wa-qad shadda faqrī wa-ftiqārī wa-lam ajid
Siwā al-Muṣṭafā al-Māḥī yunīlu fatīlā

My poverty and neediness have become severe, and I have found none but the Chosen One, the Eraser, to grant even the smallest bit.

جَنَيْتُ كَثِيرًا فَالرَّجَاءُ يَقُــــــودُنِيــي
إِلَيْهِ وَآثَامِــــــــي تَكُـــــونُ كُبُــولاَ

Janaytu kathīran fal-rajā’u yaqūdunī
Ilayhi wa-āthāmī takūnu kubūlā

I have sinned much, but hope leads me to him, even while my sins act as shackles.

عَلَى أَنَّ أَوْسَاخَ الذُّنُوبِ بِبَحْــــرِهِ
بِلاَ أَثَرٍ يَبْقَى وَجِئْتُ الرَّسُـــــولاَ

‘Ala anna awsākha al-dhunūbi bi-baḥrihi
Bilā atharin yabqā wa-ji’tu al-Rasūlā

Yet the filth of sins, in the ocean of his [grace], leaves no trace behind; thus I have come to the Messenger.

عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــــــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
يَكُونُ الْمُقَفَّى بِالْعَطَــــــاءِ كَفِيـــلاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Yakūnu al-Muqaffā bil-‘aṭā’i kafīlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may the "Followed One" be the guarantor of bounty.

عَلَيْهِ صَـــــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ
فَلَسْتُ أَرَى غَيْرَ الرَّسُولِ وَكِيـلاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Falas-tu arā ghayra al-Rasūli wakīlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; for I see none as a guardian except the Messenger.

عَلَيْهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ
فَقَدْ طَالَمَا أَسْــــدَى إِلَيَّ جَزِيــلاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Fa-qad ṭālamā asdā ilayya jazīlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; for he has long bestowed great favors upon me.

عَلَيْهِ صَــــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
مَلاَذِي أَرَاهُ فِي الْخُطُوبِ جَلِيلاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Malādhī arāhu fī al-khuṭūbi jalīlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; I see him as my magnificent refuge during calamities.

عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
أَنَالُ شَفَاعَــــاتِ الشَّفِيـعِ مُنِيـــلاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Anālu shafā‘āti al-Shafī‘i munīlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; that I may attain the intercession of the Intercessor.

عَلَيْـــــــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
فَتَخْتَــــــارُ أَنْصَـــارِي سَرَاةً عُــــدُولاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Fa-takhtāru anṣārī sarātan ‘udūlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; may he choose my helpers to be noble and just leaders.

عَلَيْهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
أَدُومُ بِظِــــــلٍّ لاَ يَزَالُ ظَلِيـــلاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Adūmu bi-ẓillin lā yazālu ẓalīlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; that I may remain in a shade that never fades.

عَلَيْهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ
أُطِيعُ كَحَذْوِي بِالنِّعَالِ الرَّسُولاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Uṭī‘u ka-ḥadhwī bin-ni‘āli al-Rasūlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; that I may follow the Messenger as closely as a sandal follows the foot.

عَلَيْهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُمَّ سَلاَمُـــهُ
إِذَا مِتُّ فِي الْفِرْدَوْسِ نِلْتُ مَقِيلاَ

‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu
Idhā mittu fī al-Firdawsi niltu maqīlā

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; so that when I die, I find a place of rest in Paradise.

عَلَيْهِ مَعَ الْآلِ الْكِرَامِ وَصَحْبِهِ
عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ لاَ أَزَالُ كَمِيــلاَ

‘Alayhi ma‘a al-āli al-kirāmi wa-ṣaḥbihi
‘Ala kulli ḥālin lā azālu kamīlā

Upon him, along with the noble family and his companions; in every state, may I remain perfected.
