# Harful Jiim · حَرْفُ الْجِيمِ

**1.** جِهَارًا لَقِيتُ الْمُصْطَفَــــى بِعُرُوجِــي / إِلَى اللّٰهِ مِنْ ذَا الْكَوْنِ وَقْتَ خُرُوجِي

_Jihāran laqītu al-Muṣṭafā bi-‘urūjī / Ila Allāhi min dhā al-kawni waqta khurūjī_

Openly I met the Chosen One during my ascension toward Allah from this universe at the time of my exit.

**2.** جَلِيلاً جَمِيلاً كَامِـــــلاً وَمُبَشِّـــرًا / بِدَرْكِ مُرَادِ الْعَبْدِ وَقْتَ وُلُوجِـــي

_Jalīlan jamīlan kāmilan wa-mubash-shiran / Bi-darki murādi al-‘abdi waqta wulūjī_

Majestic, beautiful, perfect, and a bringer of glad tidings that the servant's desire is attained at the time of my entry.

**3.** جَزِيلَ نَوَالٍ جَابِرًا جَامِعًا هُدًى / أَلُوذُ بِهِ فِي مَدْخَلِي وَخُرُوجِي

_Jazīla nawālin jābiran jāmi‘an hudan / Alūdhu bihi fī madkhalī wa-khurūjī_

Of abundant bounty, a mender of hearts, a gatherer of guidance; I seek refuge in him in my entering and my exiting.

**4.** جُبِلْتُ بِحُبِّ الْهَاشِمِيِّ وَإِنْ دَنَتْ / مَرَابِعُهُ زَخْرَفْـــتُ كُلَّ نَسِيجِــي

_Jubiltu bi-ḥubbi al-Hāshimiyyi wa-in danat / Marābi‘uhu zakhraftu kulla nasījī_

I was fashioned with the love of the Hashemite, and when his dwellings draw near, I decorate all my woven verses.

**5.** جَفَانِي مَنَامِي حِيـــنَ يَدْنُو رَبِيعُــهُ / أَيَا نَفْسُ أُوبِي لِلْحَبِيبِ وَعُوجِي

_Jafānī manāmī ḥīna yadnū rabī‘uhu / Ayā naf-su ūbī lil-ḥabībi wa-‘ūjī_

Sleep deserted me as his spring (Rabi') approached; O soul, return to the Beloved and incline toward him.

**6.** جَرَى الْقَلَمُ الْأَعْلَى بِحُكْمٍ لِحَاكِـمٍ / بِأَنِّي الْمُعَلَّى رَغْـــمَ كُلِّ عُلُــوجِ

_Jarā al-qalamu al-a‘lā bi-ḥukmin li-ḥākimin / Bi-annī al-mu‘allā raghma kulli ‘ulūji_

The Supreme Pen has flowed with the decree of the Ruler: that I am the elevated one, despite all the unrefined critics.

**7.** رُجُوعِي مِنَ الْمَوْلَى لِأَحْمَدَ نَازِلاً / إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَى فُوَيْقَ بُـــــرُوجِ

_Rujū‘ī mina al-Mawlā li-Aḥmada nāzilan / Ila al-mala’i al-a‘lā fuwayqa burūji_

My return from the Lord was toward Ahmad, descending toward the Supreme Assembly above the celestial towers.

**8.** كَأَنِّي بَرِيدُ السِّرِّ لِلْكُـــــــــلِّ قَاذِفًـــا / بِوَقْتِ هُبُوطِي مِثْلَ وَقْتِ عُرُوجِي

_Ka-annī barīdu al-sirri lil-kulli qādhifan / Bi-waqti hubūṭī mithla waqti ‘urūjī_

It is as if I am the Messenger of the Secret, casting it upon all during my descent just as I did during my ascent.

**9.** تَلَقَّاهُ مِنِّي كُـــــــلَّ رُوحٍ مُجَـــرَّدٍ / صَفَا وَقْتُهُمْ وَالْأَمْرُ غَيْرُ مَرِيـــجِ

_Talaqqāhu minnī kulla rūḥin mujarradin / Ṣafā waqtuhum wal-amru ghayru marīji_

Every pure spirit received it from me; their time became clear and the matter was no longer confused.

**10.** وَذَلِكَ مِنْ حُبِّ الْحَبِيبِ مُحَمَّــدٍ / حَبِيبٍ حَبَا الْإِحْسَانَ قَبْلُ بَهِيجِ

_Wa-dhālika min ḥubbi al-ḥabībi Muḥammadin / Ḥabībin ḥabā al-iḥsāna qablu bahīji_

And that is from the love of the beloved Muhammad; a beloved who bestowed excellence and radiant joy from before.

**11.** فَمَنْ يَتَعَلَّقْ بِالْأَمِيــــــنِ مَحَبَّـــةً / يَنَلْ كُلَّ مَا يَهْوَى بِشَمِّ أَرِيجِــي

_Fa-man yata‘allaq bil-Amīni maḥabbatan / Yanal kulla mā yahwā bi-shammi arījī_

So whoever attaches themselves to the Trustworthy One in love shall attain all they desire by smelling my fragrance.

**12.** مَحَبَّتُهُ قُوتِي وَأُنْسِي وَنُصْرَتِــي / وَدِرْعِي الَّذِي يَبْقَى بِدُونِ فُرُوجِ

_Maḥabbatuhu qūtī wa-unsī wa-nuṣratī / Wa-dir‘ī al-ladhī yabqā bidūni furūji_

His love is my nourishment, my intimacy, and my victory; and my armor that remains without any gaps.

**13.** مُحَمَّــدُ عَبْـــدُ اللّٰهِ سَيِّــــدُ خَلْقِـــهِ / بِهِ تَهْتَدِي الْعَرْبَاءُ قَبْلَ زُنُــــوجِ

_Muḥammadu ‘abdu Allāhi sayyidu khalqihi / Bihi tahtadī al-‘arbā’u qabla zunūji_

Muhammad is the servant of Allah and the master of His creation; through him, the Arabs are guided before the Africans.

**14.** عَلَيْهِ صَــــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُمَّ سَلاَمُــــهُ / يُغَسِّلُ بِالْمَاءِ الْخَطَــا وَالثُّلُـــوجِ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yughassilu bil-mā’i al-khaṭā wath-thulūji_

Upon him be the prayer of Allah and then His peace; washing away mistakes with water and snow.

**15.** عَلَيْهِ مَعَ الْآلِ الْكِرَامِ وَصَحْبِهِ / صَلاَةٌ وَتَسْلِيمٌ عِــدَادَ بُـــرُوجِ

_‘Alayhi ma‘a al-āli al-kirāmi wa-ṣaḥbihi / Ṣalātun wa-taslīmun ‘idāda burūji_

Upon him, along with the noble family and his companions; a prayer and peace as numerous as the celestial towers.
