# Harful Hhaa · حَرْفُ الْهَاءِ

**1.** هُوَ الْهَدْيُ هَدْيُ الْمُصْطَفَى وَسِوَاهُ / هَــوًى وَضَـــلاَلٌ لاَ تُقَـــدْ بِبُــرَاهُ

_Huwa al-hadyu hadyu al-Muṣṭafā wa-siwāhu / Hawan wa-ḍalālun lā tuqad bi-burāhu_

He is the guidance—the guidance of the Chosen One—and anything else is but a whim and misguidance; do not be led by its halters.

**2.** فَوَحْيٌ مِنَ اللّٰهِ الْجَلِيــــلِ جَلاَلُــهُ / عَلَى أَكْمَلِ الرُّسْلِ الْأَمِينُ تَـلاَهُ

_Fa-waḥ-yun mina Allāhi al-jalīli jalāluhu / ‘Alā akmali al-rusuli al-Amīnu talāhu_

It is a Revelation from Allah, the Majestic—Exalted is His Majesty—upon the most perfect of Messengers; the Trustworthy One (Gabriel) recited it.

**3.** وَبَيَّنَــــــــهُ إِذْ لاَ مُبِيـــنَ شَرِيعَـــــةٍ / لِذَا الْوَحْيِ غَيْرُ الْمُصْطَفَـــى وَهُــدَاهُ

_Wa-bayyanahu idh lā mubīna sharī‘atin / Lidhā al-waḥ-yi ghayru al-Muṣṭafā wa-hudāhu_

And he (the Prophet) clarified it, for there is no clarifier of the Sacred Law for this Revelation except the Chosen One and his guidance.

**4.** أُحِبُّ الرَّسُولَ الْمُصْطَفَى الْقَرْمَ إِنَّهُ / تَشَـــــرَّبَ قَلْبِــــي حُبَّـــهُ وَهَــوَاهُ

_Uḥibbu al-Rasūla al-Muṣṭafā al-qarma innahu / Tasharraba qalbī ḥubbahu wa-hawāhu_

I love the Chosen Messenger, the noble master; indeed, my heart has drunk deeply of his love and passion.

**5.** وَلِمْ لاَ وَعَيْنِي قَدْ رَأَتْهُ بِحَيِّ مَنْ / أُحِبُّ وَأَهْـــــوَى عَيْنَـــهُ وَثِنَــاهُ

_Wa-lim lā wa-‘aynī qad ra’at-hu bi-ḥayyi man / Uḥibbu wa-ahwā ‘aynahu wa-thināhu_

And why not, when my eye has seen him in the "neighborhood" of the One I love, and I adore his essence and his second?

**6.** تَجَلَّتْ لَهُ الذَّاتُ الْعَلِيَّةُ قَبْلَ مَــا / رَأَتْ غَيْرَهُ إِذْ مَا هُنَاكَ عَــدَاهُ

_Tajallat lahu al-dhātu al-‘aliyyatu qabla mā / Ra’at ghayrahu idh mā hunāka ‘adāhu_

The High Essence (Allah) manifested to him before It saw any other, for there was nothing there besides him.

**7.** فَأَوَّلُ مَحْبُــــوبٍ وَأَوَّلُ ذَاكِــرٍ / وَأَوَّلُ مَذْكُـــورٍ أُنِيـــلَ لِقَـــاهُ

_Fa-awwalu maḥbūbin wa-awwalu dhākirin / Wa-awwalu madhkūrin unīla liqāhu_

So he is the first beloved, the first rememberer [of God], and the first remembered [by God] who was granted the Meeting.

**8.** فَقَامَ يَذُودُ الْغَيْرَ حُبًّا وَغَيْــرَةً / يَقُولُ فَمَا غَيْرِي يَشُـــمُّ شَــذَاهُ

_Fa-qāma yadhūdu al-ghayra ḥubban wa-ghayratan / Yaqūlu famā ghayrī yashummu shadhāhu_

He stood repelling "others" out of love and protective jealousy, saying: "None besides me shall smell His fragrance."

**9.** فَمَنْعٌ عَطًا بُعْدٌ وَقُرْبٌ حِجَابُهُ / زَوَالُ حِجَابٍ فَاسْتَنِــرْ بِسَنَــاهُ

_Fa-man‘un ‘aṭan bu‘dun wa-qurbun ḥijābuhu / Zawālu ḥijābin fas-tanir bi-sanāhu_

Withholding and giving, distance and nearness—all are his veils; once the veil is removed, seek illumination from his brilliance.

**10.** فَمَهْمَا يَقُلْ لاَ لاَ سَبِيلَ لِوَصْلِ مَنْ / تُحِــــبُّ فَقُـــلْ لاَ لاَ أَرَاكَ سِــوَاهُ

_Famahmā yaqul lā lā sabīla li-waṣ-li man / Tuḥibbu fa-qul lā lā arāka siwāhu_

So whenever it is said: "No, no, there is no way to reach the One you love," say: "No, no, I see none but him (the Prophet)."

**11.** فَأَنْتَ مُرَادُ الْكُلِّ وَالْكُـــلُّ وَاصِــلٌ / فَمَهْمَا دَرَاكَ الْعَبْــــدُ نَـــالَ مُنَــاهُ

_Fa-anta murādu al-kulli wal-kullu wāṣilun / Famahmā darāka al-‘abdu nāla munāhu_

For you are the goal of all, and everyone is reaching [the goal through you]; whenever the servant knows you, he attains his desire.

**12.** عَلَيْـــكَ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَآلٍ وَأَصْحَــابٍ عَلَـــوْا بِعُــلاَهُ

_‘Alayka ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wa-ālin wa-asḥābin ‘alaw bi-‘ulāhu_

Upon you be the prayer of Allah and then His peace, and upon the family and companions who rose high through his loftiness.
