**1.** صَفَا لِيَ وَقْتِــي فِي الْهَــوَاءِ أَطِيـرُ / مَعَ الْمُصْطَفَى الْمُخْتَارِ وَهْوَ بَشِيرُ

_Ṣafā liya waqtī fī al-hawā’i aṭīru / Ma‘a al-Muṣṭafā al-Mukhtāri wa-huwa bashīru_

My time is pure; in the air I fly with the Chosen One, the Bringer of glad tidings.

**2.** أَطِيــرُ بِــــهِ مِنْـــهُ إِلَيْــهِ وَإِنَّــهُ / إِلَى كُلِّ أَسْـــرَارِ الْإِلَــهِ يُشِيــرُ

_Aṭīru bi-hi minhu ilayhi wa-innahu / Ila kulli asrāri al-ilāhi yushīru_

I fly through him, from him, to him; he points to all the secrets of God.

**3.** تَرَى الْمُزْنَ وَالْأَجْبَالَ كَالْأَرْضِ تَارَةً / وَطَــــوْرًا تَـــرَى أَنَّ السَّمَــاءَ تَمُــورُ

_Tarā al-muzna wal-ajbāla kal-arḍi tāratan / Wa-ṭawran tarā anna al-samā’a tamūru_

You see clouds and mountains like the earth, then the sky in commotion.

**4.** فَصُبْحًا بِيُــوفٍ ضَحْـــوَةً بِكُنَاكِــرٍ / صَنِيــعَ قَدِيـــرٍ بِالشُّئُــونِ يُدِيــرُ

_Fa-ṣubḥan bi-Yūfin ḍaḥwatan bi-Kunākirin / Ṣanī‘a qadīrin bil-shu’ūni yudīru_

Morning in Yoff, forenoon in Conakry; the work of the Capable Director of affairs.

**5.** تَرَانَا كَبَـــرْقٍ خَاطِفِيــنَ وَإِنَّنَا / جُلُوسٌ رُقُـــودٌ وَالْإِلَــهُ قَدِيــرُ

_Tarānā ka-barqin khāṭifīna wa-innanā / Julūsun ruqūdun wal-ilāhu qadīru_

You see us like snatching lightning, yet we are sitting still; God is Powerful.

**6.** تَرَانَـــــا كَـــذَا بَيْـــنَ النَّصَــارَى وَإِنَّنَــا / لَدَى الْمُصْطَفَى الْمَاحِي الضَّلاَلِ حُضُورُ

_Tarānā kadhā bayna al-naṣārā wa-innanā / Lada al-Muṣṭafā al-Māḥī al-ḍalāla ḥuḍūru_

We are among the Christians, yet present with the Eraser of misguidance.

**7.** أُخَاطِبُــهُ بِالْمَــــدْحِ وَهْــوَ بِطَيْبَــةٍ / وَإِنِّي عَلَـــــى شِبْـهِ الْبُـرَاقِ أَدُورُ

_Ukhāṭibuhu bil-madḥi wa-huwa bi-Ṭaybatin / Wa-innī ‘alā shibhi al-burāqi adūru_

I address him with praise in Medina while I revolve upon a Buraq.

**8.** أُنَاجِي الَّذِي قَدْ ذَلَّ عَرْشٌ لِقَدْرِهِ / وَفِي كَفِّــــهِ إِذْ رَامَ سَــالَ نَمِيــرُ

_Unājī al-ladhī qad dhalla ‘arshun li-qadrihi / Wa-fī kaffihi idh rāma sāla namīru_

I whisper to him for whose rank the Throne humbled; water flowed from his palm.

**9.** وَشُقَّ لَهُ الْبَدْرُ الْمُنِيرُ تَقَهْقَـــرَتْ / لَهُ الشَّمْسُ مَهْمَا رَامَ ، لاَنَ بَعِيرُ

_Wa-shuqqa lahu al-badru al-munīru taqahqarat / Lahu al-shamsu mahmā rāma, lāna ba‘īru_

The moon split, the sun retreated, and the camel softened for him.

**10.** وَأَحْيَا أُنَاسًا بَعْدَ مَوْتٍ وَقَدْ شَفَـى / كَذَا السُّقْمَ وَالْأَمْرَاضَ وَهْوَ خَبِيرُ

_Wa-aḥyā unāsan ba‘da mawtin wa-qad shafā / Kadhā al-suqma wal-amrāḍa wa-huwa khabīru_

He revived the dead and expertly healed illnesses and diseases.

**11.** تُنَازِعُنِي الْأَشْوَاقُ نَحْوَ مُحَمَّــــدٍ / بِكِنْدِيَّــةٍ إِذْ جِئْتُ حِيـــــنَ أَسِيــرُ

_Tunāzi‘unī al-ashwāqu naḥwa Muḥammadin / Bi-Kindiyyatin idh ji’tu ḥīna asīru_

Longings for Muhammad contend within me as I travel through Kindia.

**12.** أَسِيحُ إِلَى كُلِّ النَّوَاحِي لَعَلَّنِـــي / أَرَى أَمَلِي فِي اللّٰهِ وَهْـوَ كَبِيــرُ

_Asīḥu ila kulli al-nawāḥī la‘allanī / Arā amalī fī Allāhi wa-huwa kabīru_

I wander through every region hoping to see my great hope in Allah.

**13.** أَيَا رَبَّ جِبْرِيلَ الْأَمِينِ لِتَسْمَعَنْ / دُعَاءَ غَرِيبٍ ذَلَّ وَهْـــوَ حَقِيــرُ

_Ayā rabba Jibrīla al-Amīni li-tasma‘an / Du‘ā’a gharībin dhalla wa-huwa ḥaqīru_

O Lord of Gabriel! Hear the prayer of a lowly, humble stranger.

**14.** وَهِمَّتُهُ رَفْـــعُ الْحَنِيفَـــةِ مُعْلِيًــا / لِرَايَتِهَا وَالْعَوْنُ مِنْــــكَ يَسِيــرُ

_Wa-himmatuhu raf‘u al-ḥanīfati mu‘liyā / Li-rāyatihā wal-‘awnu minka yasīru_

His ambition is to raise the faith's banner; help from You is easy.

**15.** أُنَاجِيكَ فِي الْبَيْدَاءِ بِالْإِسْمِ سَائِلاً / لِرَبِّيَ نَصْــــرًا فَالْإِلَــهُ نَصِيــرُ

_Unājīka fī al-baydā’i bil-ismi sā’ilan / Li-rabbī naṣran fal-ilāhu naṣīru_

I call You in the wilderness by the Name, seeking victory from the Helper.

**16.** وَأَنْشُدُ مَا قَالَ الْمُحِـــــبُّ لَعَلَّنِــي / أَنَالُ رَجَائِي وَهْوَ قَبْـــلُ عَسِيــرُ

_Wa-anshu-du mā qāla al-muḥibbu la‘allanī / Anālu rajā’ī wa-huwa qablu ‘asīru_

I recite the lover's words, seeking my once difficult hope:

**17.** "نَبِيَّ الْهُـدَى ضَاقَتْ بِيَ الْحَالُ فِي الْوَرَى / وَأَنْـــــــتَ بِمَـــا أَمَّلْــــتُ فِيــكَ جَدِيــرُ

_"Nabiyya al-hudā ḍāqat biya al-ḥālu fī al-warā / Wa-anta bimā ammaltu fīka jadīru_

"O Prophet! My state is constricted; you are worthy of my hope.

**18.** فَسَلْ خَالِقِي تَفْرِيجَ كَرْبِي فَإِنَّـــهُ / بِتَفْرِيجِــــهِ دُونَ الْأَنَــامِ قَدِيــرُ"

_Fasal khāliqī tafrīja karbī fa-innahu / Bi-tafrījihi dūna al-anāmi qadīru"_

Ask my Creator to relieve my distress; He alone is Capable."

**19.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / أَقُودُ قُـــــــرُونِي وَالْفُـــؤَادُ بَصِيــرُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Aqūdu qurūnī wal-fu’ādu baṣīru_

Allah's peace upon him; I lead generations with an insightful heart.

**20.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / يَكُونُ أَمَامِي فِـــي الشُّئُــونِ مُنِيــرُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Yakūnu amāmī fī al-shu’ūni munīru_

Allah's peace upon him; he is before me, illuminating all my affairs.

**21.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / صُدُورِي لِأَسْرَارِ الْأَمِيــــنِ قُبُــورُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Ṣudūrī li-asrāri al-Amīni qubūru_

Allah's peace upon him; my chest is a repository for his secrets.

**22.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وُرُودِيَ بِالْـهَـادِي وَمِنْــهُ صُــدُورُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Wurūdī bil-Hādī wa-minhu ṣudūru_

Allah's peace upon him; my arrival and departure are through him.

**23.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / أَؤُوبُ بِشُكْــرِ اللّٰهِ وَهْــــوَ شَكُـــورُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / A’ūbu bi-shukri Allāhi wa-huwa shakūru_

Allah's peace upon him; I return with thanks to the Grateful.

**24.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / مَوَاهِــــــبُ رَبِّـــي لِلْحَقِيـــرِ كَثِيــرُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Mawāhibu rabbī lil-ḥaqīri kathīru_

Allah's peace upon him; the Lord's gifts to this lowly one are many.

**25.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / أَنَالُ مَنَـــــالاً لَيْــــسَ فِيـــهِ نَظِيــرُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Anālu manālan laysa fīhi naẓīru_

Allah's peace upon him; I attain a goal that has no equal.

**26.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / فَقَلْبِي لَـــدَى هَــــادِي الْعِبَادِ أَسِيــرُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Fa-qalbī lada hādī al-‘ibādi asīru_

Allah's peace upon him; my heart is a prisoner of the Guide.

**27.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / فَفِعْلِي عَلَى دَعْــــوَى الْوِدَادِ نَذِيــرُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Fa-fi‘lī ‘alā da‘wā al-widādi nadhīru_

Allah's peace upon him; my deeds witness my claim of affection.

**28.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَـــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / فَتَقْلِيــــبُ أَحْوَالِي عَلَيْـــــهِ يَسِيـــرُ

_‘Alayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu / Fa-taqlību aḥwālī ‘alayhi yasīru_

Allah's peace upon him; transforming my states is easy for Him.
