Harful Laam ·

From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass

Laqad ʿādanī shawqi-l mubarriḥu mā liyā
wa qad nāma jārātī wa uṣbiḥu wāʿiyā

My agonizing longing has returned to me, what is wrong with me? while my neighbors have slept, I remain awake and conscious.

Ḥanīnan ilā mawla-r risālati man ghadā
shafīʿa-l warā wa-l kullu yarjūhu wāfiyā

Yearning for the Master of the Message, who has become the intercessor for all creation, and everyone hopes for his fulfillment.

Banū-l biḍʿi wa-l khamsīna hal li-bukā’ihim
li-shawqin dawan kallā kadhālika mā biyā

Those in their fifties—is there any medicine for their weeping out of longing? No, and likewise is my own condition.

Alā fa-ʿdhurūnī aw falūmū fa-lam akad
umayyizu bayna-l ḥālatayni li-ḥāliyā

So excuse me or blame me, for I can hardly distinguish between the two states due to my situation.

Wa man kāna yadrī-l munḥaminna wa ʿāqiban
yariqqu li-ḥālātī walaw kāna qāliyā

Whoever knows the Bestower and the Final Successor would feel pity for my states, even if he were once my hater.

Aṣikh li-ishārātī fa-inniya lam abuḥ
bi-sirri ḥabībī khalli ʿanka su’āliyā

Listen closely to my signs, for I have not revealed the secret of my beloved; so leave aside your questioning of me.

Uḥibbu-l ilāha-l ḥaqqa ʿayna Muḥammadin
afāḍa lahu minhu ilayhi mudāniyā

I love the True God, the very essence of Muhammad; He overflowed upon him from Himself to him, bringing him near.

Fa-subḥāna rabbī wafqa ḥaḍrati qudsihi
wa subḥāna rabbī mā ajalla ilāhiyā

So glory be to my Lord according to His Holy Presence, and glory be to my Lord, how majestic is my God.

Idhā mā talā-t tālī ṣifāti nabiyyinā
bi "wa-n najmi" amsā li-l ḥaqīqati dāriyā

When the reciter recites the attributes of our Prophet in the chapter "By the Star," he becomes aware of the ultimate reality.

Qad athnā ʿalayhi rabbunā bi-kalāmihi
fa-mādhā ʿasā Barhāmu yuṣbiḥu ḥākiyā

Our Lord has already praised him with His own speech; so what can Barham possibly say in narration?

Faʿūlun mafāʿīlun faʿūlun mafāʿilun
madā-d dahri lā ya’tī bi-ḥaqqika māḥiyā

(The meter) Fa’ulun Mafa’ilun Fa’ulun Mafa’ilun throughout time can never fully encompass your right, O Eraser (of misguidance).

Walākinna madḥa-l mādiḥīna tashaffuʿun
fa-yashfaʿu lī Ṭāhā li-ajli maqāliyā

But the praise of the praisers is a seeking of intercession; so Taha will intercede for me because of my words.

ʿAlayhi ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu
yuqarribunī khayru-l bariyyati rāḍiyā

Upon him be the blessings of Allah and then His peace; may the best of creation bring me near while being pleased.

ʿAlayhi ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu
yunawwiru aqṭāra-l bilādi thanā’iyā

Upon him be the blessings of Allah and then His peace; may my eulogy enlighten the regions of the lands.

ʿAlayhi ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu
wa ālin wa aṣḥābin wa man jā’a tāliyā

Upon him be the blessings of Allah and then His peace, and upon the Family, the Companions, and whoever comes after.
