# Harful Miim · حَرْفُ الْمِيم

**1.** مُرَادِيَ عَيْنُ الْحَقِّ تَيْـــدَكَ لاَئِمِــي / فَلَيْسَ سِوَى الذِّكْرِ الْحَكِيمِ بِعَاصِــمِ

_Murādī ʿaynu-l ḥaqqi taydaka lā’imī / fa-laysa siwā-dh dhikri-l ḥakīmi bi-ʿāṣimi_

My desire is the essence of Truth, so go easy O my censurer, for there is no protector besides the Wise Remembrance.

**2.** تَلاَهُ الْفَتَى الْمَأْمُونُ مِنْ عِنْدِ رَبِّــهِ / مِنِ امْلاَءِ جِبْرَائِيلَ أَكْبَــــرِ خَـادِمِ

_Talāhu-l fatā-l ma’mūnu min ʿindi rabbihi / min imlā’i Jibrā’īla akbari khādimi_

The trustworthy youth recited it from his Lord, through the dictation of Gabriel, the greatest of servants.

**3.** فَجَاءَ بِــهِ نُــــورًا دَعَانَــا لِرَبِّــهِ / وَأَبْلَغَنَا مَا فَاتَ كُـــــلَّ الْعَوَالِــمِ

_Fa-jā’a bihi nūran daʿānā li-rabbihi / wa ablaghanā mā fāta kulla-l ʿawālimi_

He brought it as a light and called us to his Lord, and conveyed to us what had escaped all the worlds.

**4.** وَصِرْنَا بِهِ خَيْرَ الْبَرَايَــا وَإِنَّنَــا / شُهُودٌ إِذَا يَقْضِي الْمُهَيْمِنُ رَاحِـمِي

_Wa ṣirnā bihi khayra-l barāyā wa innanī / shuhūdun idhā yaqḍī-l muhayminu rāḥimī_

Through him we became the best of creation, and we are witnesses when the All-Preserving Merciful One decrees.

**5.** لَنَا شَاهِدٌ عَـــــدْلٌ مُزَكًّــى مُبَــرَّزٌ / وَيَرْفَعُنَا فَـــــوْقَ السُّهَا وَالنَّعَائِــمِ

_Lanā shāhidun ʿadlun muzakkan mubarrazun / wa yarfaʿunā fawqa-s suhā wa-n naʿā’imi_

We have a just, purified, and prominent witness, and he raises us above the stars of Suha and Na'aim.

**6.** وَذَا الْمُنْحَمِنَّا مَلْجَأُ الْكُــــلِّ شَافِعًــا / لِوَا الْحَمْدِ فِي كَفَّيْهِ هَلْ مِنْ مُزَاحِمِ

_Wa dhā-l munḥaminna malja’u-l kulli shāfiʿan / liwā-l ḥamdi fī kaffayhi hal min muzāḥimi_

And this Bestower is the refuge of all as an intercessor; the Banner of Praise is in his hands, is there any contender?

**7.** وَذَا الْمُنْحَمِنَّا مَلْجَأُ الْكُــــلِّ شَافِعًــا / لِوَا الْحَمْدِ فِي كَفَّيْهِ هَلْ مِنْ مُزَاحِمِ

_Wa dhā-l munḥaminna malja’u-l kulli shāfiʿan / liwā-l ḥamdi fī kaffayhi hal min muzāḥimi_

And this Bestower is the refuge of all as an intercessor; the Banner of Praise is in his hands, is there any contender?

**8.** فَأَنْشُدُ أَمْدَاحِــــــي وَأَشْدُو بِذِكْــرِهِ / جِهَارًا عَلَى رَغْمِ الْعَدُوِّ الْمُسَاخِــمِ

_Fa-anshuḍu amdāḥī wa ashdū bi-dhikrihi / jihāran ʿalā raghmi-l ʿaduwwi-l musākhimi_

So I chant my praises and sing his remembrance openly, despite the begrudging enemy.

**9.** فَأَشْرَبُ مِــنْ كَفِّ الْأَمِينِ وَإِنَّنِـــي / أُسَاقِي بِيُمْنِ الْهَاشِمِـــــيِّ مُلاَئِمِــي

_Fa-ashrabu min kaffi-l amīni wa innanī / usāqī bi-yumni-l hāshimiyyi mulā’imī_

I drink from the hand of the Trustworthy one, and I serve my companions by the blessing of the Hashemite.

**10.** وَمَنْ قَالَ قَدْ أَضْلَلْتُ فَالْحَــقُّ شَاهِـــدٌ / عَلَى أَنَّنِي مَا حِدْتُ عَنْ نَهْجِ هَاشِمِي

_Wa man qāla qad aḍlaltu fa-l ḥaqqu shāhidun / ʿalā annanī mā ḥidtu ʿan nahji hāshimī_

Whoever says I have gone astray, the Truth is witness that I have not deviated from the Hashemite path.

**11.** وَذَا الدِّينُ مَوْرُوثٌ بِعِلْمٍ فَلَمْ يَــرِثْ / أَخُو الْجَهْلِ نِحْرِيرًا سَلِيلَ الْأَكَارِمِ

_Wa dhā-l dīnu mawrūthun bi-ʿilmin fa-lam yarith / akhū-l jahli niḥrīran salīla-l akārimi_

This religion is inherited through knowledge; the brother of ignorance does not inherit a master scholar of noble lineage.

**12.** وَإِنْ ضَلَّلَ الْجُهَّالُ ذَا الْعِلْمِ وَالْهُـدَى / فَتَفْسِيرُهُ : ذُو الْجَهْلِ لَيْــسَ بِعَالِــمِ

_Wa in ḍallala-l juhhālu dhā-l ʿilmi wa-l hudā / fa-tafsīruhu: dhū-l jahli laysa bi-ʿālimi_

If the ignorant ones declare the possessor of knowledge and guidance as astray, the explanation is: the ignorant one is not a scholar.

**13.** بِكَسْبٍ يَكُــــونُ الْإِرْثُ عِنْدَ نَبِيِّنَــا / عَلَيْـــهِ صَـــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ عَــدَّ الْعَوَالِــمِ

_Bi-kasbin yakūnu-l irthu ʿinda nabiyyinā / ʿalayhi ṣalātu-llāhi ʿadda-l ʿawālimi_

Through striving, the inheritance is attained from our Prophet; upon him be the blessings of Allah to the count of the worlds.

**14.** عَلَيْــــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــهُ / وَآلٍ وَأَصْحَابٍ بُحُورٍ خَضَارِمِ

_ʿAlayhi ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu / wa ālin wa aṣḥābin buḥūrin khaḍārimi_

Upon him be the blessings of Allah and then His peace, and upon the Family and Companions, the vast oceans of generosity.
