# Harfus Siin · حَرْفُ السِّين

**1.** سَلاَمٌ علَى خَيْرِ الْبَرِيَّةِ مَـنْ بَسَــطْ / مَوَائِدَ دِينِ اللّٰهِ فِـــي شَكْلِهِ الْوَسَـطْ

_Salāmun ʿalā khayri-l bariyyati man basaṭ / mawā’ida dīni-llāhi fī shaklihi-l wasaṭ_

Peace be upon the best of creation, the one who spread the tables of the religion of Allah in its balanced and moderate form.

**2.** دَعَانَا إِلَى صُنْــعِ الْمَكَــــارِمِ وَالتُّقَــى / وَسَوَّى صُفُوفَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَلاَ شَطَطْ

_Daʿānā ilā ṣunʿi-l makārimi wa-t tuqā / wa sawwā ṣufūfa-l muslimīna falā shaṭaṭ_

He called us to the practice of noble virtues and piety, and he straightened the ranks of the Muslims without any excess.

**3.** تَجَنَّبْ جَمِيعَ الظُّلْمِ وَاعْفُ وَأَعْرِضَــنْ / عَنِ الْجَهْلِ وَاللَّغْوِ الْمُشِينِ تَكُنْ وَسَـــطْ

_Tajannab jamīʿa-ẓ ẓulmi wa-ʿfu wa-aʿriḍan / ʿani-l jahli wa-l laghwi-l mushīni takun wasaṭ_

Avoid all oppression, forgive, and turn away from ignorance and disgraceful idle talk; then you shall be balanced.

**4.** إِذَا رُمْتَ أَنْ تَحْيَا كَبِيــرًا وَبَعْـــدَ ذَا / تَصِيرُ سَعِيدًا فَلْتَمَسَّــــكْ بِـــذَا النَّمَطْ

_Idhā rumta an taḥyā kabīran wa baʿda dhā / taṣīru saʿīdan faltamassak bi-dhā-n namaṭ_

If you desire to live as an eminent person and thereafter become a happy one, then cling to this pattern.

**5.** وَلاَ تَتَّكِـــــلْ إِلاَّ عَلَـــى اللّٰهِ وَحْــدَهُ / وَجَاهِدْ بِجِدٍّ كَيْ تَكُونَ كَمَنْ فَــرَطْ

_Walā tat-takil illā ʿalā-llāhi waḥdahu / wa jāhid bi-jiddin kay takūna kaman faraṭ_

And do not rely on anyone except Allah alone, and strive with diligence so that you may be like those who surpassed others.

**6.** وَرَاقِبْ إِلَــهَ الْعَرْشِ جَـــــلَّ جَلاَلُـــهُ / رَقِيبًــا بَصِيرًا مَالِــكَ الْأَمْرِ وَالْخِطَطْ

_Wa rāqib ilāha-l ʿarshi jalla jalāluhu / raqīban baṣīran mālika-l amri wa-l khiṭaṭ_

And be mindful of the God of the Throne—majestic is His glory—as a Watcher, All-Seeing, the Owner of the command and the plans.

**7.** وَصَلِّ عَلَى خَيْرِ الْأَنَــامِ مُحَمَّــــدٍ / لِكَيْ تُلْفَ مَلْحُوظًا لَدَيْهِ وَتُغْتَبَـــطْ

_Wa ṣalli ʿalā khayri-l anāmi Muḥammadin / likay tulfa malḥūẓan ladayhi wa tughtabaṭ_

And send blessings upon the best of mankind, Muhammad, so that you may be found noticed by him and be an object of envy for your blessings.

**8.** عَلَيْـــــــهِ صَــــلاَةُ اللّٰهِ ثُـــمَّ سَلاَمُــــهُ / وَآلٍ وَصَحْبٍ قَدْ حَمَاهُمْ عَنِ الْغَلَـطْ

_ʿAlayhi ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu / wa ālin wa ṣaḥbin qad ḥamāhum ʿani-l ghalaṭ_

Upon him be the blessings of Allah and then His peace, and upon the Family and Companions whom He protected from error.
