Harful Jiim ·
From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass
Jamaʿta wujūdan haybatan wa jalālā
wa abṣartu min dhā bahjatan wa jamālā
You gathered existence, awe, and majesty; and I have perceived through this radiance and beauty.
Jamāluka unsun haybatun wa maḥabbatun
fa-anta atammu-l mursalīna kamālā
Your beauty is intimacy, awe, and love; for you are the most complete of the Messengers in perfection.
Wa kulluhumu ḥāza-l makārima wa-l ʿulā
wa mā ka-l imāmi-l hāshimiyyi khiṣālā
All of them attained noble traits and high standing, but none have character like the Hashemite Imam.
Muḥammadu yā khayra-l anāmi wasīlatī
ḥabāka ilāhī mā yafūtu maqālā
Muhammad, O best of mankind, you are my means; my God has endowed you with that which surpasses description.
Muḥammadu yā khayra-l anāmi wasīlatī
ḥabāka ilāhī mā yafūtu maqālā
Muhammad, O best of mankind, you are my means; my God has endowed you with that which surpasses description.
Wa anta wahabta-l bīḍa wa-s sūda fa-ntaḥā
ilayka khadīmun rāma minka manālā
You gave generously to the white and the black; thus a servant has turned toward you seeking a gift.
Wa aʿnīka khayra-l ʿālamīna wasīlatī
munīlī ladā-l yawmi-r rahībi nawālā
I mean you, O best of the worlds, my means; the one who grants me a gift on the Day of Terror.
Wa tayyamanī ḥubbīka ṣirtu mujamjimā
ʿalā-l barri wa-l ajwā arūmu wiṣālā
Your love has infatuated me; I have become one who speaks clearly across lands and skies seeking union.
Fa-ghādartu awṭānī wa ahlī wa usratī
ajūbu-l falā lam ashku qaṭṭu kalālā
So I left my homelands, my people, and my family; I traverse the wilderness and never once complained of fatigue.
Bi-Kawlakha ṭawran aw bi-Yūfin wa marratan
bi-Bārīsa dāri-l fāsiqīna kusālā
In Kaolack at times, or in Yeumbeul, and once in Paris—the abode of the lazy transgressors.
Bi-Baljīka yawman thumma yawman tajawwulā
bi-Qāhiratin abghī hunāka jamālā
In Belgium for a day, then a day of wandering in Cairo, seeking beauty there.
Li-ʿAbdi-l Malīki-l qarmi qad ji’tu mawninan
wa mā Lundunan abghī fa-habhā khayālā
To the noble Abdul Malik (in Morocco) I came late at night; as for London, I do not seek it—consider it but a phantom.
Bi-Bayrūta anḥū-ṣ Ṣīna bi-sh sharqi khādimā
rasūla ilāhi-l ʿarshi wa huwa taʿālā
In Beirut, I head toward China in the East as a servant of the Messenger of the God of the Throne—exalted is He.
Karāshī bihā khallaftu ahla mawaddatī
hum naṣarū dīna-n nabiyyi fiʿālā
In Karachi, I left behind the people of my affection; they supported the religion of the Prophet through actions.
Qadi-ʿtaṣamū bi-l ḥabli ḥabli Muḥammadin
kibāran wa aṭfālan nisan wa rijālā
They clung to the rope—the rope of Muhammad—elders and children, women and men.
Bi-dāri ʿulūmi-d dīni adraktu nuzhatī
fa-qad shayyadat majdan yafūtu maqālā
In the House of Religious Sciences I found my recreation; it has built a glory that surpasses speech.
Li-markazi inʿāmi-l ilāhi tashawwuqī
fa-qad shāda majdan idh atāḥa majālā
Toward the center of God's favor is my longing; for it built glory when it provided the opportunity.
Bi-Lāhūra bi-l Hindi-l qadīmi ʿimāratun
masīrī ila-l mawlā wa jalla jalālā
In Lahore, in ancient India, there is a structure; my journey is toward the Master—majestic is His majesty.
Li-Hankūka min Bankūka jā’a khadīmukum
yuwālī laka-l asfāra wa huwa aṭālā
To Hong Kong from Bangkok your servant came; he continues the travels for you, and he has prolonged them.
Bi-fārighi ṣabrin qad atā mutaṭaffilā
fa-ḥaqqiq rajā ʿabdin ra’āka manālā
With exhausted patience he has come as an uninvited guest; so fulfill the hope of a servant who saw you as his goal.
Fa-fī kulli ḥayyin qad ḥabaṭta bi-niʿmatin
ilā kulli ḥayyin qad badhalta manālā
For in every neighborhood you have descended with a blessing; to every living soul you have bestowed a gift.
ʿAlawtu-l biḥāra-z zākhirāti wa innanī
ʿalawtu-l qurā wa-l mudna balha-l jibālā
I rose above the overflowing seas, and indeed I rose above the villages and cities, let alone the mountains.
Arūmu riḍā-l bārī li-nuṣrati dīnihi
wa ubrizu li-l jīli-l jadīdi mithālā
I seek the pleasure of the Creator to support His religion, and to present an example for the new generation.
Ḍaʿīfun ʿalīlun shā’ibun mutaḥammisun
li-yanṣura dīnan lā yurīdu qitālā
A weak, ailing, gray-haired, but enthusiastic man; to support a religion that does not desire fighting.
Li-anna-n nabiyya-l hāshimiyya-d dahra mā ghazā
balā ṣadda ʿudwānan wa radda ḍalālā
For the Hashemite Prophet never initiated a raid; rather, he repelled aggression and turned back misguidance.
Taqādhafahu-l ajwā’u sharqan wa maghribā
yubīnu-l hudā fiʿlan wa qālan wa ḥālā
The winds of the atmosphere toss him East and West; explaining the guidance through action, speech, and state.
Bi-Kantūna janba-l qarmi Saʿdin tawassulī
bi-qā’idihi radda-l juyūsha wa ṣālā
In Canton, beside the noble Sa'd (ibn Abi Waqqas), is my seeking of means; through his leader, he repelled armies and charged.
Ramāhum bi-amri-l hāshimiyyi wa innahu
adhāqa-l jumūʿa-l muʿtadīna wabālā
He pelted them by the command of the Hashemite, and indeed he made the transgressing masses taste calamity.
ʿAlayka salāmu-llāhi yā Saʿdu innahu
atāka khifāfun yarjiʿūna thiqālā
Upon you be the peace of Allah, O Sa'd; for people came to you light and returned heavy with blessings.
Li-Bīkīna min Kantūna bi-ṣ Ṣīni nā’iyā
wa Kawlakhu tadʿū qad abanta-r riḥālā
To Beijing from Canton in China, far away; while Kaolack calls, for you have made the travels clear.
Tamassak bi-adhyāli-n nabiyyi mutābiʿā
madhāhibahu wa-l muḥdathātu falā lā
Cling to the hems of the Prophet, following his ways; and as for innovations—no, absolutely no.
Fa-tughnīka ʿan dustūri Kurzin wa Khālidin
wa tughnīka ʿan Jūnin yarūmu muḥālā
It suffices you over the constitution of Curzon and Khalid; and it suffices you over John who seeks the impossible.
Fa-mā Nābulyūnun aw Lanīnun wa Markasun
bi-mūḥan ilayhim khalli ʿanka khabālā
For Napoleon, Lenin, or Marx were not inspired; leave aside such confusion.
Kitābun mina-llāhi-l jalīli jalāluhu
qadīmun wa bāqin lā yakhāfu zawālā
A Book from Allah—majestic is His majesty—ancient and eternal, fearing no end.
Talāhu-l fatā-l ma’mūnu jahran wa yaqẓatan
fa-daʿ baʿda hādhā kulla qīla wa qālā
The trustworthy youth (Muhammad) recited it openly and in wakefulness; so leave after this all "he said" and "she said."
Fa-yā rabbi qarrir lī-l ʿuyūna bi-an arā
siwā-l ḥaqqi min dhā-l qarni zāla wa zālā
O Lord, delight my eyes by seeing all but the Truth vanish from this century.
May the banner of the Hashemite rise, while the banner of error and tyranny has fallen—and he (the Prophet) is exalted.
Ilayka walā arjū siwāka wa in yakun
siwāka manālī mā qabiltu nawālā
Toward you I turn and I hope in none but you; even if my goal were elsewhere, I would not accept the gift.
ʿAlayka ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu
ajirnī wa aṣḥābī arāka thimālā
Upon you be the blessings of Allah and then His peace; protect me and my companions, for I see you as a sanctuary.
ʿAlayka ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu
wa tashmalu aṣḥāba-n nabiyyi wa ālā
Upon you be the blessings of Allah and then His peace; and may it include the Prophet's companions and family.
