Harfud Daal ·

From Ad-Dawaawiinu s-Sitta · الدواوين الست by Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass

Dumūʿun ka-raqrāqi-l lujayni tubarhinu
ʿalā ṣidqi shawqī baynamā-l waqtu mawhinu

Tears like shimmering silver prove the sincerity of my longing while the time is late night.

ʿAlā haykalin fawqa-l ghamā’imi qāṣidan
mazāraka aʿla-n nāsi khalqan wa aḥsanu

Upon a frame (vessel) above the clouds, heading toward your visitation—O highest of people in character and most beautiful.

Muḥammadu yā khayra-l anāmi fa-mā tarā
li-taymin shadīdi-l ḥubbi wa-l madḥa yuḥsinu

O Muhammad, O best of mankind, what do you see for a captive of love who is intense in affection and excels in praise?

Ilā jamʿika-l muddāḥu yunmā wa innahu
asīru hawan lam yulfa fī-d dahri yutqinu

To your gathering the praisers are attributed, and indeed he is a prisoner of passion who has not been found perfecting anything else in time.

Fa-kun liy shafīʿan yā shafīʿu fa-kullu man
siwāka faqīrun li-sh shafāʿati muʿlinu

So be an intercessor for me, O Intercessor; for everyone besides you is poor and openly declares their need for intercession.

Wa inniya arjūhā bashīru wa lam anal
lahā sababan ghayra-l kabā’iri tuʿlanu

And I hope for it, O Bringer of Glad Tidings, though I have found no cause for it other than great sins that are declared.

Ataytuka lā arjū siwāka Muḥammadā
wa anta mazūrī anta li-l khayri maʿdinu

I have come to you hoping in none but you, Muhammad; you are the one I visit and you are the metal (source) of all good.

Bi-Fārāna bi-l Baṭḥā’i bi-l Bayti taqbalan
khadīman rafīqan li-l jināni fa-yū dhanam

In Paran, in the Bathā’, and at the House—accept a servant as a companion of the gardens so he may be granted entry.

Fa-ṣilnī rasūla-llāhi Ṭāhā mu’ammanā
falam yaku liy min ʿindi ghayrika ma’manu

So connect me, O Messenger of Allah, Taha, as one made safe; for I have no place of safety except with you.

Urānī ka-ghayrī lājī’an ʿinda bābi-kum
wa kullu ʿaẓīmu-s su’li kullu yudandinu

I see myself like others, taking refuge at your door; everyone has great requests and everyone is humming their pleas.

Bi-mawqifi Badrin lā yazālu tadha-kkurī
ilā man ghadā yaḥmī-dh dhimāra wa yūminu

At the site of Badr, my remembrance remains constant of the one who became the protector of the honor and the grantor of safety.

Ataytuka yā khayra-l khalā’iqi mawhinan
urajjīka tuʿlīnī wa ḥāliya tuḥsinu

I came to you, O best of creation, in the late night, hoping you will elevate me and improve my condition.

Wa tashfī siqāmī tajburu-l kasra sayyidī
wa taʿfū ʿan aswā’in darāhā-l muhayminu

And heal my sicknesses and mend the brokenness, my master; and forgive the evils that the All-Preserving One knows.

Marartu bi-Badrin bi-l Furayshi bi-Rābighin
li-masjidihi wa-l ḥarru fī-l qalbi mukmanu

I passed by Badr, al-Furaysh, and Rabigh toward his mosque, while the heat was hidden within my heart.

Laka-l ʿahdu minnī yā rasūlu fa-innanī
uḥibbuka ḥattā ḥīna fī-l qabri ud-fanu

You have a covenant from me, O Messenger; for I shall love you even until the time I am buried in the grave.

Yu’arriqunī ḥubbīka laylī wa kayfa lā
walā ḥasanun illā li-ḥusnika yadhʿanu

Your love keeps me awake at night, and how could it not? For there is no beauty except that it submits to your beauty.

ʿAlayka ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu
atāka khadīmun qāṣirun wa huwa muminu

Upon you be the blessings of Allah and then His peace; a falling servant has come to you, yet he is a believer.

ʿAlayka ayā kanza-l barāyā nabiyyanā
ṣalātun wa taslīmun wa innaka ma’manu

Upon you, O treasure of creation, our Prophet, be blessings and peace; for indeed you are the place of safety.

ʿAlayka ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu
fa-mā liy kanzun lā wa lā liy maʿdinu

Upon you be the blessings of Allah and then His peace; for I have no treasure, no, nor do I have a source of wealth.

ʿAlayka ṣalātu-llāhi thumma salāmuhu
walā ʿamalun yunjī mina-n nāri mutqanu

Upon you be the blessings of Allah and then His peace; and no perfected deed that saves from the fire.

ʿAlayka madā-l ayyāmi mā qāla khādimun
dumūʿun ka-raqrāqi-l lujayni tubarhinu

Upon you throughout the days as long as a servant says: Tears like shimmering silver prove.
