A thirteenth-century ode of praise for the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W

## Opening verses

**1.** كَيْفَ تَرْقَى رُقِيَّكَ الأَنْبِيَاءُ / يَا سَمَاءً مَا طَاوَلَتْهَا سمَاءُ

_Kayfa tarqā ruqiyyaka al-anbiyā’u / Yā samā’an mā ṭāwalahā samā’u_

How can the other Prophets reach your height, O Heaven that no other heaven can overtop?

**2.** لَمْ يُسَاوُوكَ فِي عُلاَكَ وَقَدْحَا / لَ سَنىً مِنْكَ دُونَهُمْ وَسَنَاءُ

_Lam yusāwūka fī ‘ulāka wa qadḥā / La sanan minka dūnahum wa sanā’u_

They did not equal you in your loftiness, for a light from you was given to them, but yours is the brilliance and the majesty.
