Safiyyu-llahi Bar’haamu

You are the beloved extrovert and bosom friend of Allah, Oh Barham!

لَأَنْتَ الْحِصْنُ مِنْ كُلِّ الْـ
مَخُوفِ الْغَوْثُ بَرْهَامُ

La’anta-l hisnu min kulli-l
Makhuufu-l Gawthu Barhaamu

You are the fort against any apprehension..Oh the Succour, Barham!

شَكُورٌ خَالِصُ الْأَعْمَا
لِ وَالْأَقْوَالِ بَرْهَامُ

Shakuurun khaalisu-l A’amaa
li wal Aq’waali Barhaamu

You are thankful and sincere in all your deeds and sayings, Oh Barham!

يُلِينُ الْجَنْبَ لَا فَظًّا
غَلِيظَ الْقَلْبِ بَرْهَامُ

Yuliinu-l janba laa fazzaan
Ghaliiza-l Qalbi Barhaamu

He (Niass) was lenient, and not severe harsh-hearted, Oh Barham!

خُشُوعٌ مِنْ سَجَايَاكَ
غِيَاثُ الْخَلْقِ بَرْهَامُ

Khushuu’un min sajaayaaka
Ghiyaathu-l khalqi Barhaamu

Submissiveness is one one your natural dispositions, Oh Nurturer of the Creation, Barham!

إِلَهُ الْخَلْقِ أَعْطَاكَ
زِمَامَ الْكَوْنِ بَرْهَامُ

Ilaahu-l khalqi A’ataaka
Zimaama-l kawni Barhaamu

God of the Creation has given you control of the Universe, Oh Barham!

لَقَدْ أُوتِيتَ كُنْ فَيَكُو
نُ فَضْلُ اللهِ بَرْهَامُ

Laqad uutiita kun-fayakuu
nu fadla-llahi Barhaamu

Indeed, you had been granted (power of) ‘Be and it is’, which is a favour from Allah, Oh Barham!

حَبِيبُ الْحَقِّ بَوَّابُ
وُلُوجِ الْكُلِّ بَرْهَامُ

Habiibu-l haqqi Bawwaabu
wuluuji-l kulli Barhaamu

You are the Ultimate beloved of the Truth (Allah) and portal of the divine platform for all the creations, Oh Barham!

أَنَلْتَ الْكُلَّ جَدْوَاكَ
سِوَى شَانِيكَ بَرْهَامُ

Anilta-l kulla jadwaaka
Siwaa shaaniika Barhaamu

You gave all the creations your grants, save your critics, Oh Barham!

جَمِيلٌ جَابِرُ الْكَسْرِ
لِمَنْ وَافَاكَ بَرْهَامُ

Jamiilun jaabiru-l kasri
liman waafaaka Barhaamu

You are elegant, and you ameliorate vices to virtues for whoever embraces you, Oh Barham!

إِمَامُ الْأَوْلِيَا كُلًّا
بِهَذَا الْوَقْتِ بَرْهَامُ

Imaamu-l Awliyaa kullaa
bi’haadhaa-l waqti Barhaamu

You are the pivot leader of all Saints in this epoch, Oh Barham!

بُرُوزُ الْحَقِّ وَالتَّحْقِي
قِ وَالْعِرْفَانِ بَرْهَامُ

Buruzul haqqi wattahqi
qi wal irfani Barhamu

You are the projection of the Truth (Allah), Reality and gnosis, Oh Barham!

رَمَيْتَ الْقِشْرَ لِلدِّينِ
لِأَهْلِ الْقِشْرِ بَرْهَامُ

Ramaital qishra liddini
li Ahlil qishri Barhamu

You abandoned the shell of the religion (Islam) for the people of the shell, Oh Barham!

أَخَذْتَ اللُّبَّ مِنْ لُبٍّ
لِأَهْلِ اللُّبِّ بَرْهَامُ

Akhaztallubba Min lubbin
li Ahlil Lubbi Barhamu

Hence, you upheld the kernel from its intrinsic for the people of Gnosis (Gnostics/Aarifeen), Oh Barham!

هِيَامُ الْقَلْبِ فِي الْهَاهُو
تِ وَاللَّاهُوتِ بَرْهَامُ

Huyamul Qalbi fil hahu
ti wallahuti Barhamu

Your heart roves in the divine platform of Hahut and Lahut, Oh Barham!

يَهِيمُ فِي جَبَرُوتٍ
كَذَا الْمَلَكُوتِ بَرْهَامُ

Yahimu fi jabaruti
kazal Malakuti Barhamu

And it (heart) rove in a divine platform of Jabarut, likewise in Malakut, Oh Barham!

مَحَوْتَ الْكَوْنَ بِالنَّاسُو
تِ سِرَّ اللهِ بَرْهَامُ

Mahautal kauna Binnasuti
sirrallahi Barhamu

You effaced the creations from platform of Nasut Oh Mystery of Allah, Barham!

أَسَرَّ السِّرَّ لِلسِّرِّ
لِأَهْلِ السِّرِّ بَرْهَامُ

Asarras sirra lissirri
li Ahlis sirri Barhamu

You confide mystery to the mystery and for the Gnostics, Oh Barham!

بَدِيعُ الصُّنْعِ مَحْمُودُ الـ
صِّفَاتِ الْغَوْثُ بَرْهَامُ

Badi’us sun’i Mahmud us
sifatil gausi Barhamu

You are wonderful and of praiseworthy characters Oh the succour, Barham!

نَصِيحٌ شَاكِرٌ بَرٌّ
رَفِيعُ الصِّيتِ بَرْهَامُ

Nasihun shakirun Barrun
Rafi’us siti Barhamu

You are sincere, thankful, righteous and illustrious, Oh Barham!

أَمِينُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ
كَفِيلُ الْأَمْرِ بَرْهَامُ

Aminullahi fil Ardi
kafilul amri Barhamu

You are Allah’s trustworthy on earth and surety in serious matters, Oh Barham!

لَأَنْتَ الْغَوْثُ فِي الْأَرْوَاحِ
أَهْلُ الْفَوْزِ بَرْهَامُ

La antal gausu fi arwahi
Ahlil fauzi Barhamu

You are the nurturer in the souls of the prosperous people, Oh Barham!

حَلِيمٌ قَائِدُ الرُّكْبَانِ
وَالْحُجَّاجِ بَرْهَامُ

Halimun qa’idur rukbani
wal hujjaji Barhamu

You are patient and you are the leader of the mystical travellers and the pilgrims, Oh Barham!

أَعَنْتَ الْحَقَّ بِالْحَقِّ
فَعَبْدُ الْحَقِّ بَرْهَامُ

A’antal haqqa bil haqqi
fa abdul haqqi Barhamu

You propagate the truth (Islam) by the truth (Qur’an&Sunnah). Hence , you are the servant of the Truth (Allah), Oh Barham!

جَمَالٌ مَعَ جَلَالِ اللهِ
أَعْيَا الْفَهْمَ بَرْهَامُ

Jamalun maa jalalullahi
Aayal fahma Barhamu

Splendour and Majesty of Allah, perplexes the (individual) understanding, Oh Barham!

عَبَدْتَ الذَّاتَ بِالذَّاتِ
فَعَبْدُ الذَّاتِ بَرْهَامُ

Abattaz zata bizzati
fa Abduzzati Barhamu

You worshipped Allah by Allah. Then, you are the (sincere) servant of Allah, Oh Barham!

بَدَا مِنْكَ كَرِيمٌ مِنْ
كَرِيمٌ مِنْكَ بَرْهَامُ

Bada minka karimun min
karimun minka Barhamu

Nobility emanated from you by the fact that you are the source of nobility, Oh Barham!

دَلِيلٌ كَاشِفُ الْأَلْبَاسِ
وَالظُّلُمَاتِ بَرْهَامُ

Dalilun kashiful Albasi
Wazzul mati Barhamu

You are the guide that tackles the ambiguity and lighten the darkness, Oh Barham!

أَمَطْتَ الْغَيْرَ وَالْغَيْرِيَّـ
ـةَ الْإِنْيَاسَ بَرْهَامُ

Amattal gaira wal gairi
yatal Inyasu Barhamu

You expel theism and polytheism, Niass Barham!

لَلَا وَاللهِ لَا فَصْلٌ
لِمَنْ وَافَاكَ بَرْهَامُ

Lala wallahi la faslun
liman wafaka Barhamu

Nay, I swear by Allah, there’s no spiritual separation for whoever embraced you, Oh Barham!

لَلَا وَاللهِ لَا وَصْلٌ
لِشَانِئِ الْغَوْثِ بَرْهَامُ

Lala wallahi la waslun
li shanil gausu Barhamu

Nay, I swear by Allah, there’s no spiritual union for the critics of the nurturer, Oh Barham!

أَخَذْتَ الدِّينَ بِالْحَبْلِ الْمَـ
ـتِينِ مِنْكَ بَرْهَامُ

Akhaztad Dina bil hablil
Matini minka Barhamu

You uphold the pristine of the religion (Islam) firmly, Oh Barham!

هَدَمْتَ الْأُسَّ مِنْ كُفْرٍ
بِسِرِّ الْمَاحِ بَرْهَامُ

Hadamtal ussa min kufrin
Bisirril Mahi Barhamu

You demolished foundation of disbelievers with the mystery of Al-Mahi (SAW), Oh Barham!

أَتَخْشَى جَوْرَ أَعْدَاءٍ
خَدِيمَ الْكَافِ بَرْهَامُ

Atakh’shaa jawra a’adaa-in
khaddemi l kaafi Barhamu

Would you fear deceit of (your) foes? Oh servant of Kaf (SAW), Barham!

لَلَانَتْ صَخْرَةُ الْجَوْرِ
زَمَانَ الْغَوْثِ بَرْهَامُ

La-anat sakhratu l jawri
zamaana l ghawthi Barhamu

Despotism became pliable in the age of the nurturer, Oh Barham!

كَمَالُ الدِّينِ وَالدُّنْيَا
حَوَاهُ الْغَوْثُ بَرْهَامُ

Kamaalu deen wa dunyaa
hawaahu l ghawthu Barhamu

The nurturer accomplished the perfection of religion and the world, Oh Barham!

وَلَوْ لَمْ تَخْشَ لَمْ تَعْصِ
إِلَهَ الْعَرْشِ بَرْهَامُ

Wa law lam takh’sha lam ta’asi
ilaha l ‘arshi Barhamu

You did not fear nor disobey Lord of Al-‘Arsh (because of fear of hell-fire or desire to enter paradise). It is only for His sake, Oh Barham!

لَأَنْتَ الْجَوْهَرُ الْفَرْدُ
فَلَا تَقْسِيمَ بَرْهَامُ

La-anta l Jawharu l fardu
falaa taqseema Barhamu

You are, really, an indivisible sui generis gem, Oh Barham!

خَلِيُّ الْقَلْبِ مِنْ غِلِّ
وَشَرِّ الْكِبْرِ بَرْهَامُ

Khaliyyu l qalbi min gillin
wa sharri l kibri Barhamu

You heart is free from spite and haughtiness, Oh Barham!

يَمِينِي فِيكَ مَبْرُورٌ
بِحَمْدِ اللهِ بَرْهَامُ

Yamiinii fiika mabruurun
bi-hamdi llahi Barhamu

My covenant in you is sincere. So, praise is due to Allah, Oh Barham!

صَلَاحَ الدِّينِ وُلِّيتَ
إِمَامَ الْعَدْلِ بَرْهَامُ

Salahuddini wullita
imamul Adli Barhamu

You are charged with reformation of the religion (Islam) and you are a just leader, Oh Barham!

أَدَرْتَ الْكَاسَ مِنْ خَمْرٍ
لِأَهْلِ الشُّرْبِ بَرْهَامُ

Adartal kasa min khamrin
li Ahlish shurbi Barhamu

You served the Gnostics with a cup full of spiritual wine, Oh Barham!

حَيَارَى كُلُّنَا نَشْوَا
نُ بِالْأَذْكَارِ بَرْهَامُ

Hayara kulluna nashwa
nu bil azkari Barhamu

All of us (proteges [mureed(s)] become) bewildered, tipsying with litanies, Oh Barham!

بَقَائِي مِنْ فَنَائِي فِي
غِيَابِي فِيكَ بَرْهَامُ

Baqaa’i min fanaa’ii fii
ghiyaabii fiika barhamu

My existence and sobriety depends on my total annihilation in you, Oh Barham!

أَبُو الْأَرْوَاحِ وَالْأَشْبَا
حِ هَذَا الْوَقْتَ بَرْهَامُ

Abul arwahi wal Ashbahi
hazal waqta Barhamu

You are the spiritual father of all souls (Haqiqah) and bodies (Shariah) at this period, Oh Barham!

لَأَنْتَ الْفَرْضُ فِي الْمَعْنَى
كَذَا فِي الْحِسِّ بَرْهَامُ

La’antal fardu fil maana
kaza fil hissi Barhamu

You are sui generis (unique) in the senses of incorporeal and corporeal, Oh Barham!

فَفَيْضُ الْخَتْمِ قَدْ بَانَا
وَأَنْتَ الْقُطْبُ بَرْهَامُ

Fafaidul khatmi qad bana
wa antal qudbu Barhamu

Spiritual flood of the seal, has indeed, emerged and you are the (current) Qutb, Oh Barham!

يَنَالُ الْفَيْضَ مَنْ وَافَا
كَ بِالتَّصْدِيقِ بَرْهَامُ

Yanalul faida man wafaka
bittasdiqi Barhamu

Whoever embraces you sincerely will drink from the spiritual flood, Oh Barham!

ضَمَانٌ مِنْ مَخُوفَاتٍ
لِمَنْ يَأْتِيكَ بَرْهَامُ

Damanun min makhufatin
liman yatika Barhamu

You are a solace (in a state) of hysteria for whoever embraces you, Oh Barham!

هُدَاةُ الدِّينِ فِي تَحْتِ
لِوَاكَ الْيَوْمَ بَرْهَامُ

Hudatuddini fi tahti
liwakal yauma Barhamu

Preceptors of the religion (Islam) are presently under your auspices, Oh Barham!

إِذَا مَا ظَهَرَ نَصْرُ اللهِ
أَتَى الْأَفْوَاجُ بَرْهَامُ

Izama zahara Nasrullah
atal af waju Barhamu

If (help of Allah manifests), people will turn up in hordes, Oh Barham!

لَأَنْتَ الْوَارِثُ الْخَتْمِ
كَذَا الْمَكْتُومُ بَرْهَامُ

La antal warisul khatmi
kazal maktumi Barhamu

You are the vicegerent of the seal (of prophethood) thus, the concealed (Shaykh Tijani), Oh Barham!

تَمَامُ الْفَتْحِ فِي الْمَهْدِ
بِفَضْلِ اللهِ بَرْهَامُ

Tamamul fat’hi fil Mahdi
bi fadlillahi Barhamu

Your sainthood has been completed from the infanthood by the favour of Allah, Oh Barham!

جَرِيءٌ كَاسِرُ الْجَبَّا
رِ وَالْفُسَّاقِ بَرْهَامُ

Jari’un kasirul jabbari
wal fussaqi Barhamu

You are a brave man (who) vanquished the tyrants and the boorish, Oh Barham!

أُرِيتَ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَى
رَسُولَ اللهِ بَرْهَامُ

Urital Ayatal kubra
rasulallahi Barhamu

You were shown the greater sign (i.e.) Apostle of Allah (SAW), Oh Barham!

نَفَتْ شَكًّا مَعَ الْأَسْوَا
وَمَنْ جَارَاكَ بَرْهَامُ

Nafat shakka Maal As’wa
wa man jaraka Barhamu

You confuted doubtness, otherness and those who compete with you, Oh Barham!

يَشُمُّ مِنْكَ مِنْ رِيحٍ
رِجَالُ الْغَيْبِ بَرْهَامُ

Yashummu minka min rihin
rijalul gaibi Barhamu

The hidden men of God also sniff from your spiritual fragrance, Oh Barham!

تَعَالَى اللهُ أَعْطَاكَ
بِذَا الْإِفْضَالِ بَرْهَامُ

Ta’alallahu Aadaka
bizal ifdali Barhamu

Allah, the Exalted, granted you that favour, Oh Barham!

أَبَى مَنْ كَانَ مَحْجُوبًا
عَنِيدَ الْحَقِّ بَرْهَامُ

Aba man kana mahjuban
anidal haqqi Barhamu

The one prevented from realizing the spiritual favour, and stout opponent of the truth, will disprove you, Oh Barham!

لَأَعْمَى يُنْكِرُ الشَّمْسَ
بِصَحْوِ الْجَوِّ بَرْهَامُ

La’ama yunkirush shamsa
bisahwil jawwi Barhamu

A blind person might deny the ray of sun that beams at unclouded sky, Oh Barham!

غَنِينَا فِي بِسَاطِ الْأُنْـ
ـسِ كُلَّ الْحِينِ بَرْهَامُ

Ganina fi bisadil unsi
kullal hini Barhamu

We achieve (spiritually) every now and then on the platform of your companionship, Oh Barham!

وَأَنْتَ الْعَنْبَرُ الْمِسْكُ
وَقُسْطًا النِّدَّ بَرْهَامُ

Wa antal anbarul misku
wa qusdan niddi Barhamu

You are (pleasant like) Ambergris, Musk and peerless Qust (i.e. pleasant perfumes/scents), Oh Barham!

ثَنَائِي الدَّهْرَ لَا يُوفِي
صِفَاتِ الْمَجْدِ بَرْهَامُ

Sana’iddahra la yufi
sifatil majdi Barhamu

My eulogy cannot envelope (your) glorious attributes, Oh Barham!

إِذَا مَا قِيلَ مَنْ لَيْلَاكَ
قُلْتُ الْغَوْثُ بَرْهَامُ

Izama qila man lailaka
Qultul gausu Barhamu

If they (people) ask me who is your beloved? I will say: the nuturer, Barham!

لَصِيتٌ مِنْكَ قَدْ عَمَّا
نَوَاحِي الْأَرْضِ بَرْهَامُ

Lasitun minka qad Amma
Nawahil Ardi Barhamu

Your excellent reputation has, indeed, prevailed on earth, Oh Barham!

فَأَهْلُ الْإِيلِيَا مِصْرًا
كَذَا بَغْدَادُ بَرْهَامُ

Fa Ahlul Iliya misrin
kaza Bagdadu Barhamu

The people of Misra (Egypt) as well as the (people) of Baghdad, Oh Barham!

رَأَوْكَ الشَّمْسَ مِنْ غَرْبٍ
تُضِيءُ الشَّرْقَ بَرْهَامُ

Ra’aukash shamsa min garbin
Tudi’ush sharqa Barhamu

..They saw you as the sun that emerged from occident, illuminating the orient, Oh Barham!

دَعَوْكَ لِلْمُنَاجَاتِ
لِسِرِّ الدِّينِ بَرْهَامُ

Da’auka lil munajati
lisirriddini Barhamu

They invited you for dialogues on crucial issues of Islam, Oh Barham!

أَجَبْتَ الرُّسْلَ بِالْوَعْدِ
عَلَى الْإِتْيَانِ بَرْهَامُ

Ajabtar rusla bil waadi
alal ityani Barhamu

You responded to the emissaries, by promising to come (for the dialogue), Oh Barham!

بَلَى وَفَّيْتَ بِالْعَهْدِ
لِجَبْرِ الدِّينِ بَرْهَامُ

Bale waffaita bil ahdi
li jabriddini Barhamu

Oh yes! You gleefully fulfilled the covenant of reforming the religion (Islam), Oh Barham!

وَقَدْ هَابُوكَ إِذْ جِئْتَ
مَهِيبَ اللَّيْثِ بَرْهَامُ

Waqad habuka iz ji’ita
mahibal laisi Barhamu

They (the people of the world) accorded respect for you, as they do behave themselves in the presence of a lion, Oh Barham!

أَجَالُوا الْفِكْرَ فِي فَهْمٍ
جَدِيدٍ مِنْكَ بَرْهَامُ

Ajalul fikra fi fahmin
jadidin minka Barhamu

They tried anew to understand your essence, Oh Barham!

سَهَوْا عَنْ فَهْمِهِمْ لَمَّا
أَمَمْتَ الصَّفَّ بَرْهَامُ

Sahau an fahmihim lamma
Amamtassaffa Barhamu

They (erudite scholars) over-sighted from their knowledge at (the time) you led the congregational prayer, Oh Barham!

حَنِينٌ كُلُّهُمْ عُشَّا
قُ فِي رُؤْيَاكَ بَرْهَامُ

Haninun kulluhum ushshaqu
fi ru’uyaka Barhamu

All of them (scholars) yearned and longed to see you, Oh Barham!

أَتَى الْأَعْلَامُ وَالْأَحْبَا
رُ وَالْعُبَّادُ بَرْهَامُ

Atal Aalamu wal ahbaru
wal ubbadu Barhamu

Personages, sages and ardent worshippers (of Allah) challenged you Barham!

قَطَعْتَ الْكُلَّ بِالسِّكِّيـ
ـنِ مِنْ بُرْهَانِ بَرْهَامُ

Qada’atal kulla bissikkini
min burhani Barhamu

You cut their argument short with knife of proof, Oh Barham!

أَتَوْا لِلْبَحْرِ بِالدَّلْوِ
وَمَاذَا الدَّلْوُ بَرْهَامُ

Atau lil bahri biddalwi
wamazaddalwu Barhamu

They came to the Sea (Niass) with their bucket, and what (quantity of water) could that bucket (fetch from that sea), Oh Barham!

لَجَلَّ الْأَمْرُ فَوْقَ الْعَقْـ
ـلِ وَالْأَفْكَارِ بَرْهَامُ

Lajallal amru fauqal aqli
wal afkari Barhamu

Verily, the matter is beyond the (human) reasoning and thoughts, Oh Barham!

أَقَمْتَ السُّنَّةَ الْغَرَّا
بُعَيْدَ الْمَيْلِ بَرْهَامُ

Aqamtassunnatal garra
Bu’aidal maili Barhamu

You invigorated the pristine sunnah after its declination, Oh Barham!

نِطَاقُ الْبِدْعَةِ انْحَلَّا
بِمَا شَمَّرْتَ بَرْهَامُ

Nitaqul Bid’atin halla
bima shammarta Barhamu

Belt of heretical innovation was unfastened by what you invigorated, Oh Barham!

يُنَاجِي الرَّبَّ مَنْ رَبَّيْـ
ـتَ كُلَّ الْحِينِ بَرْهَامُ

Yunajir Rabba marrabbaita
kullal hini Barhamu

Whoever you nurtured, will never cease in point of time making supplication to the Lord, Oh Barham!

إِذِ الْأَذْكَارُ كَالْأَنْفَا
سِ عِنْدَ الْفَيْضِ بَرْهَامُ

Izil azkaru kal anfasi
indal faidi Barhamu

In fact, adhkar (litanies) are like sustaining breath to the people of Faydah (Spiritual Flood), Oh Barham!

سَرَى طَيْفُ الْخَيَالِ مُذْ
أَتَى الْفَيْضَاتُ بَرْهَامُ

Sara Daiful khayali muz
atal faidatu Barhamu

Phantoms dispersed when the spiritual flood emerged, Oh Barham!

يَنَابِيعُ الْعُلُومِ مَعْـ
ـدِنُ الْأَسْرَارِ بَرْهَامُ

Yanabi’ul ulumi maa
dinul Asrari Barhamu

You are the source of exoteric and esoteric knowledge, Oh Barham!

لَأَنْتَ الْكِيمِيَا وَالْكَنْـ
ـزُ وَالْمِفْتَاحُ بَرْهَامُ

La-anta l Kaymiyaa wal kan
zu wal miftaahu Barhamu

You are the Alchemy, Treasure and Master key (to fortune), Oh Barham!

أَسَّسْتَ الْجَامِعَ الْأَعْلَى
عَلَى التَّقْوَى أَبَرْهَامُ

Asastal jaami’a l a’alaa
‘alaa l taqwaa A-barhamu

You established an exalted central mosque on piety, Oh Barham!

يَنَالُ الْفَخْرَ إِفْرِيقِيـ
ـيُ مِنْ ذَا الْبَيْتِ بَرْهَامُ

Yanaalu l fakhru ifreeqii
yu min dhaa l bayti Barhamu

Africans attain pride in that very mosque, Oh Barham!

زَمَانُ الْغَوْثِ مَعْمُورُ الـ
ـزَّوَايَا فِيهِ بَرْهَامُ

Zamaanu l ghawthu ma’amuuri z
zawaayaa fiihi Barhamu

Epoch of the succour, recorded proliferation of zawayah (places for remembering God), Oh Barham!

أَتَى سَعْدُ السُّعُودِ مَا
سِحُ الدَّبَرَانِ بَرْهَامُ

Ataa sa’adu s su’uudi maa
sihu dibraani Barhamu

The star of fortune emerged to obliterate the star of misery, Oh Barham!

لَأَنْتَ الْمُفْرَدُ الْعَلَمُ
إِذَا نُودِيتَ بَرْهَامُ

La-anta l mufradu l ‘alamu
idhaa nuudiitu Barhamu

You are a unique eminent in terms of responding to (protege’s/murid’s) call of intervention, Oh Barham!

فَمِسْكِينٌ يُنَادِيكَ
نِدَاءَ الْفَرْدِ بَرْهَامُ

Fa-miskeenu yunaadeeka
nidaa’a l fardi Barhamu

Therefore, Miskin/Needy (The author [Shaykh Abdul-Qadir]) is shrieking upon you, a unique call, Oh Barham!

يَمُدُّ الْكَفَّ فِي فَقْرٍ
مَعَ الْحَاجَاتِ بَرْهَامُ

Yumiddul kiffa fii faqrin
ma’a l haajaati Barhamu

He (The Miskin) is stretching his hand of need (to you) with lots of aspiration, Oh Barham!

جِنَايَاتٌ لَهُ فَاتَتْ
يَدَ التَّعْدَادِ بَرْهَامُ

Jinaayaati lahu faatat
yadaa ta’adaadi Barhamu

His (the author’s) sins have gone exceedingly beyond the limits of enumeration, Oh Barham!

مَلَاذُ الْخَائِفِ الْغَوْثُ
غِيَاثُ الْخَلْقِ بَرْهَامُ

Malaadhal khaa’ifi l ghawthu
giyaathu l khalqi Barhamu

You are the shelter for the nervous, Oh the nuturer of the creatures Barham!

أُرَجِّي فِي خِلَالِ الْخَوْفِ
أَنْتَ التُّرْسُ بَرْهَامُ

Urjii fii khalaali l khaw
fi anta tursu Barhamu

My hope lies on you in the frightful period. For, you are a fortress, Oh Barham!

لِأَنِّي قَاصِرُ الْخَطْوِ
إِلَى الْخَيْرَاتِ بَرْهَامُ

Li-anii qaasiru l khatwi
ilaa l khayraati Barhamu

Because I am very weak in taking steps to good deeds, Oh Barham!

مَهَازِيلُ الْفِصَالِ مُحْـ
ـتَوَى الْأَضْيَافِ بَرْهَامُ

Mahaazeelu l fisaali muh
tawaa l adyaafi Barhamu

The day of judgment will be replete with creatures, Oh Barham!

وَمَا الرَّحْمَنُ بِالْمُخْرِي الـ
ـلَّذِي يَأْتِيكَ بَرْهَامُ

Wa maa Rahmaanu bil mukhrii l
ladhii yaatiika Barhamu

However, Ar-Rahman (Allah) will never disgrace whoever takes refuge in you, Oh Barham!

لَجَذْبٌ مِنْكَ إِنْ مَنِلْـ
ـتُ نِلْتُ الْأَمْنَ بَرْهَامُ

La-jadhbu minka in maanil
tu niltu l amni Barhamu

If I could attain ecstasy from you, hence I am secured, Oh Barham!

أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ يَا غَوْثِي
وَغَيْثِي الْقُطْبُ بَرْهَامُ

Abaa is’haaqa Yaa Ghawthii
wa ghaythii l Qutbu Barhamu

Father of Is’haq, Oh my succour! My fortune and (you are the) Qutb, Oh Barham!

هُمُومٌ قَدْ سَبَتْ قَلْبِي
لِفَقْدِ الزَّوْرِ بَرْهَامُ

Humuumu qad sabat qalbii
li-faqdi zawri Barhamu

Indeed, dismay has captured my heart, because of my inability to visit (Kawlakh), Oh Barham!

يَحُوزُ السَّعْدَ مَنْ زَارَ
بُيُوتَ الْغَوْثِ بَرْهَامُ

Yahuuzu sa’ada man zaara
buyuuta l ghawthi Barhamu

Whoever visits the abode of the succour, will attain fortune, Oh Barham!

هَدَانِي الْبَرْقُ فِي السِّنْغَا
لِ وَالْأَنْوَارِ بَرْهَامُ

Hadaanii l barqu fii singhaa
li wa anwaari Barhamu

The flash of your light guided through at Senegal, Oh Barham!

بُكِلُّ الطَّرْفِ مِنْ قُرْبٍ
عَنِ الْإِدْرَاكِ بَرْهَامُ

Bukillu tarfu min qurbin
‘ani l idraak Barhamu

(However) the sight of your close observer is dimmed (by the flash) from realizing your essence, Oh Barham!

مُمِدُّ الْكَفِّ عَبْدُ الْقَا
دِرِ الْمِسْكِينُ بَرْهَامُ

Mumiddu l kaffi ‘abdul-qaa
diri l miskeenu Barhamu

The person who is seeking for your help is Abdul-Quadir Al-Miskin, Oh Barham!

إِذَا أَمْسَكْتَ بِالْأَيْدِي
شَفَيْتَ النَّفْسَ بَرْهَامُ

Idhaa amsakta bil aydii
shafeetu nafsu Barhamu

If you take my hand, I am gleefully contented, Oh Barham!

لَأَنْتَ الْمُنْقِذُ الْجَانِي
بُعَيْدَ الْيَأْسِ بَرْهَامُ

La-anta l munqidhu l jaanii
bu’ayda l yaasi Barhamu

You are the rescuer of a despondent culprit, Oh Barham!

حَرِيمٌ مِنْكَ كَافِيهِ
مَدَى الْأَزْمَانِ بَرْهَامُ

Hareemun minka kaafiihi
madaa l azmaani Barhamu

Your protection is sufficient for him forever, Oh Barham!

مُرَادٌ مِنْكَ رِضْوَانٌ
مَعَ الْإِمْدَادِ بَرْهَامُ

Muraadu minka ridwaanun
ma’a l imdaadi Barhamu

My desire in you, is to attain your satisfaction and providence, Oh Barham!

دَرَى الْأَقْوَامُ مَا بِي مِنْ
عَدِيمِ الذَّوْقِ بَرْهَامُ

Daraa l aqwaamu maabii min
‘adeemi dhuuqi Barhamu

People know that I am a novice in Gnosis, Oh Barham!

لِأَنَّ الْأَمْرَ فِي الْقَصْدِيرِ
وَالْإِيرَادِ بَرْهَامُ

Li-anna l amru fii l qasdeeri
wa l-iiraadi Barhamu

Because the will (of Allah) is realized between its mandate and accomplishment, Oh Barham!

لَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ أُمَّ الْخَيْـ
ـرِ وَابْنُ الرُّوحِ بَرْهَامُ

Laqad qadamtu ummu l khay
ri wab’nu ruuhi Barhamu

I intercede with you on behalf of Ummu l Khayr and the spiritual son, Oh Barham!

إِلَيْكُمْ سُلَّمًا وَالْحَا
جِ سِيسًا عَالِ بَرْهَامُ

Ilaykum sulumaan wal haa
ji siisaan ‘aali Barhamu

Also, on behalf of the grand Al-Hajj (Ali) Cisse, Oh Barham!

هَدَانَا اللهُ بِالْغَوْثِ
صِرَاطَ الْحَقِّ بَرْهَامُ

Hadaanaa-llahi bil-ghawthi
siraata l haqqi Barhamu

May Allah guide us by (virtue of) the Ghawth (Niass) to the true path, Oh Barham!

تَمَامُ النَّظْمِ فِي عَوْنٍ
وَحَمْدِ اللهِ بَرْهَامُ

Tamaamu nazmi fii awnin
wa hamdi-llahi Barhaamu

The eulogy comes to the end by Allah’s assistance and praise be to Allah, Oh Barham!

وَصَلَّى اللهُ مَا دَامَتْ
صِفَاتُ الذَّاتِ بَرْهَامُ

Wa salaa-llahu maa daamat
Sifaatu Dhaati Barhaamu

And may Allah’s blessing in as far as attributes of Allah exists….

عَلَى أَصْلِ الْأُصُولِ مِنْ
بَنِي عَدْنَانَ بَرْهَامُ

alaa Asli-l Usuuli min
banii ‘adnaani Barhaamu

…be upon the Source of the Creation (who hails) from lineage of Adnan, Oh Bar’ham!

مَعَ الْأَصْحَابِ وَالْآلِ
كَذَا الْأَتْبَاعُ بَرْهَامُ

Ma’a-l as’haabi wa-l Aali
Kadhaa-l atbaa’hu Barhaamu

And (that blessing) should include his companions, households and his adherents, Oh Barham!

عَنِ الْمَكْتُومِ مِنْ رِضْوَا
نِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ بَرْهَامُ

‘Ani-l Maqtuumi min Ridwaa
ni Rabbu-l ‘Arshi Barhaamu

May Lord of Al-Arsh (the throne) be pleased with the ‘concealed’ (Shaykh Ahmad Tijani), Oh Barham!

كَذَا الْأَصْحَابُ مِنْ قَافٍ
إِلَى قَافَاتِ بَرْهَامُ

Kadhaa-l as’haabi min qaafin
ilaa qaafaati Barhaamu

As well as (Tijani’s) disciples, from generation to generations, Oh Barham!

كَذَا سَادَاتُنَا كُلًّا
مَعَ الْأَشْيَاخِ بَرْهَامُ

Kadhaa saadaatunaa kullaan
ma’a-l Ashyaakhi Barhaamu

As well as all our predecessors, and our preceptors, Oh Barham!

مَفَاعِيلُنْ مَفَاعِيلُنْ
هَزَجْتُ الشِّعْرَ بَرْهَامُ

Mafaa’iilun Mafaa’iilun
Hazajta-shi’iri Barhaamu

(The poem is concluded on the meter of) Mafa’ilun Mafa’ilun, I have composed the poem, Oh Barham!
